Pretty sure this is a silly question, but I'm wondering if I need to pull the tires and wheels to set the body on (MK4). I'm ready to test fit the body and want to get things ready so that when I call my friends for help I'm all ready to roll. I'm pretty sure the wheels need to come off first, but if not, that will save me 30 minutes. A quick reply is appreciated.

Slider,

I just did my first test fit 2 weekends ago. it was me and 3 others. I left the tires on which in my opinion wasnt that big of a deal getting the body on, however; i ended up taking them off shortly after to mount the gas filler as well as checking the fit agains the rubber sealers around the aluminum panels. your going to need to take them on and off to check the clearance of the front tires when turning and the rear to make sure they dont hit. again just my opinion and experience. sounds like i'm just a little ahead of you in the build process.

You can leave them on for mating the body to chassis. Eventually they'll come off to fit splash panels and such.

Another simple question.........................what is the best method for getting the body back on the chassis for fitting? When I took the body off my chassis for the first time after delivery, it was quite a pain. I had to remove the side panels out of the trunk which of course I can't do now. Do you get the rear end on first then the front or in reverse. I recall having the front of the body (under the grill opening) hit the front bumper mounts.

Thanks

To install the body, tip the nose down and hook the front around the front bumper mounts. Then move the body back as far as you can spreading the center of the cockpit area, and then over and down the trunk side panels. Takes a bit of a stretch to get over the trunk panels. Watch the bulb seal on the trunk panels. It's easy to damage or tear. Some guys use plastic, towels, whatever to protect it. Once in place, typically the body slides forward a bit to the final position. It can be done with two people, but four is better, especially when painted and you don't want to take a chance damaging anything. Also watch bending it in the middle.

Removing the body is just in reverse. After all the bolts are removed, slide it back as far as you can and start by lifting the back.
