A response from your other thread

when i tried to get plates on the car they sent me to another DMV to get QQ plates,

And there you have it, the mistake was attempting to put QQ plates on a kit car, that loophole has been closed for roughly 10 years. You threw up big red flags in their system when you did so, and you must now go through NJ's "kit car title process". As for receipts on the build, I would contact the seller who you purchased the car from and see if he has them in his files (or if the state of Illinois has a file on the car that might satisfy NJ's documentation requirements.

Do not use this thread as an example as he bought a car already titled in another state and attempted to title it in NJ as something it was not.

Our monthly breakfast is this Sunday at the Chesterhills Diner, RT 206 in Chester, NJ at 9am. Plenty of us have been through the title process (some of us more than once :D ) and have it down to a science. Feel free to come along as this is a wife/girlfriend friendly event.

i did not try to title it for something it was not, all i did was what NJ DMV instructed me to do, (i inquired about collectable registration which no one at the NJ DMV could give me a direct answer yes or no) there seems to be no set regulations on this process!! from my experience with this process from titleing to registration its whichever DMV person is processing it and the interpertion of the inspection station, from speaking with others who went threw this process no consistency, i did use the checklist from another member, that was a great help!

You can get regular registration or a custom plate of your choosing, you cannot get QQ or collector plates at all

You will get a regular registration. Another trip to DMV. You can opt for vanity plates if you so desire. You also will still have to go for another DMV inspection to obtain your windshield sticker. You can go to the DMV for this or a private inspection. Your choice.
