I have the manual steering rack that came with my complete kit back in early 2008. At the time there weren't any directions on how to install it. I've read on the other forum that I need to cut an inch off of something to get proper toe in when doing the alignment. Is this true for my parts and do you have any directions on what to cut?

Rootbeer,
I was talking to a vendor last we as I am updating to a Power rack, my manual rack is 48" long from threaded shaft on each end. The Rod Ends are 5 1/2 and i think with that setup no cutting may be required. I know that FFR and others have longer/shorter tie rod ends available.

BTW, I am in ST Pete often as I have a rental property there would be interesting to compare builds, I am just getting started on my MKIV.

mine is a 15:1 manual rack from a complete kit 2009, the tie-rod ends were cut an 1" off each, i believe STLScott had a thread on ffcars on it.
mine semed to bottom out. and the threads went in plenty deep, so room to nibble off.

Hey Guys,

A few years ago, we had the manufacturer widen the rack itself to place the inner ball joints in a better position. Because, to my knowledge, they are still using the same inner tie rods, you may have to cut off an amount equivalent to that by which it was extended. I'd check first, though, because if you're able to adjust toe properly without cutting anything, you'd be better to keep it that way. Really you're free to cut as much off as you want, as long as you still maintain enough thread engagement with the outer tie rod.
