hey guys, a couple of years ago i inherited my dad's factory five mk II. it was his pride and joy and id love to keep it but being 6'4" 300 lbs i just dont fit in it. its been a hard decision but im ready to get it sold. im currently going through all the paper work i have on it to put together a more complete description but here is what i know so far

odometer reads 2,499 (dad worked for a dealership and im assuming used dealer tags to test drive it as the car is not yet titled)
stroked and ported/polished out to 331ci EFI
fully detailed motor and undercarriage
8.8" rear end (gearing unknown)
3 Link FFR suspension with Pro Shocks
IFS
Explorer heads
5 speed manual transmission - i believe the donor was an 89 fox body
cold air intake
oil filter moved out front and enlarged to keep it cool
AC
autovision Night Vision gauges that glow green to match the paint
Convertible top along w/ toneau cover
Front disc brake conversion
dropped foot boxes and trunk
mtx audio amp and speakers
paint is in good shape w/ some spidering/cracking on doors where window brackets were installed.

Car is currently in Maryland.

I have the certificate of origin. where do i find the serial number on the frame and also what can i do/what do i need to identify the donor car? should i title this before i sell it? ive been informed that maryland titles the car the year it was completed but that would mean emissions. just trying to figure out where to go from here... pics to follow this afternoon as i am at work or you can check out one of my other forumn posts

Since it was never registered you won't find a VIN number. There is a number on the chassis but it is not a VIN number. That number is hard to see but FFR used to put in on the inside of the horizonal 2X2 behind the driver in the driver rear wheel. You would have to remove the wheel/tire to view it. I believe it is a weld beed. again not a VIN number. I live in AZ but built and registered the car in CA. The CA Highway Patrol assigned the VIN and installed it on the 2X2 just above the drivers knee. CA and AZ will register the car as a "hand crafted automobile'. The smog rules are according to the year the car replicates, 1965 in CA and AZ. Your state may not be the same. You can search on what is needed to register and you will get a lot of information on the "advanced search" at the top right of this page.. I think you would be wise to have it titled before trying to sell unless your willing to discount the price. It's not hard but it's not something a buyer would enjoy doing before buying it. Just my $0.02.

The car sounds like a pretty basic build.

clwright50: nice looking car. take the time to find the paperwork to get her titled. First you have to pass the inspection - in my case a state police officer came to the garage to ensure all the safety stuff was in line (indicators, etc...) and also to confirm that there weren't any stolen parts in the car - mainly interested in the origin of the engine (sounds like you are going to need to find the donor VIN or title unless the engine is brand new). Next step is to go to DMV who will want to see receipts for items that taxes were not not paid on (perhaps internet purchases - you'll have to pay tax on these ) and then a few days, weeks or months later DMV will call to adhere your vehicle VIN number. That's it
