brake lines

I've been tinkering with the brake lines and my question is does the flare need to be perfectly centered?
It seems every time I make the flare it is just a little out of center. Is there a trick to this?

I don't know if there is a trick to it. It may be the quality of the tool you use or may be the technique. But after doing it over and over again, it seems like sometimes it's how you hold your mouth! Just kidding but even when I would try to make sure the end was perfectly straight and everything was done the same way just like the last perfect swedge, it would be off center a little. I concentrated on the second part of the swedge which holds the line in place. After installing one, I would remove it and look at the hole in the end. It still worked (didn't leak) even though it was not perfectly centered. I used more than one kind of tool also. So, maybe you can become an expert and get a perfect swedge every time but I don't have enough time in this lifetime to find out!!! Good luck. WEK.
