This is my first mechanical clutch and it has me stumped. It seems to me that the cable is too long. When attached to both ends there seems to be too much slack to be made up with the firewall adjuster or the quadrant stop. In the manual (pg 171) there is a black spacer before it goes into the firewall adjuster yet it isn't there on page 116. If I try to adjust the Quadrant stop, the bolt is way too short and the adjustment on the firewall adjuster seems way too extreme. Questions: Is the cable too long? Is there a spacer? Obviously I'm doing something wrong but what?

The cable is not too long. There are three places to adjust the cable, Quadrant stop (for pedal height adjustment), Firewall adjuster and the threaded end that attaches to the clutch fork. Between the three places you should be able to do anything you need to do.

I could not obtain enough adjustment on my cable using all the areas mentioned in Jespers response. I inserted a spacer on the cluth fork end of the cable, backed off the firewall adjustment and now have sufficient slack to properly adjust the clutch. The spacer is about 1 inch in length.

Find the black spacer. I didn't have it at first and once I found it, I had plenty of adjustment. I just don't recall where I found it...maybe I bought one?
