A passenger plane happened to be flying near the Kennedy Space Center as Discovery took off for it's last flight on Thursday. Some one got out their camera phone and captured the shuttles take off from the plane. It's shaky, but still a cool video.

Thanks for posting.
Always a great site. I was lucky enough to be at the big launch clock when Sally Ride went up. I don't think I breathed until it was out of site. Sure wish I lived closer so I could see it one more time.

That was great, I am surprised they would let an airliner that close to a launch

Great video! Thanks for sharing....I had to watch the Shuttle launch from Zaragoza Spain on NASA Select TV...I was there to support an emergency landing should the Shuttle could not meet it's orbit..Great launch! There are only two more left...April 19th and the last one June or July, so if anybody has not seen a Shuttle launch make plans to see the next two.

Awesome video. Talk about being at the right place, at the right time.

Jack, I'm in Miami, and want to take my kids to see one of the last two. Where is the best place to go to see it? Is there a way to still get tickets for these event? Thanks, Rob.

Rob,

No tickets required, you can watch the Shuttle go up for free...The best place to watch the Shuttle launch is in Titusville along US 1 on the Indian River somewhere near SR 50...However you have to be there early to get a spot... At this location you can see the Shuttle come off the launch Pad...Other place is Port Canaveral Jetty Park or along the beach area...The next two launches the traffic is going to be extremely heavy so I would suggest to come very early and then after the launch just sit there for few hours and let the traffic thin out.

How much time before the launch do you advise we get there?

Rob.

This is an awesome sight. I would love to see another launch. I've seen 4 landings but only one launch (in person) and it's something you will never forget. The launch I attended was at night.

Rob,

The Shuttle Endeavour STS-134 is scheduled to launch at 7:48 PM which will be a night launch on April the 19th...So I would suggest getting there at least 4 to 5 hours before launch time. The only problem is you make arrangements to come to watch a launch and fight all of the traffic and then the Shuttle could be delayed for technical problems or weather for a day or two...This is just the chance you take.

I'm sure there is a no fly zone around the launch site. The jet was probably still at least 30 miles away.

I was surprised at the arc of the flight. I always envisioned them going straight up for some reason.

I'll have to check my schedule for mid April. I loved the other night launch and the clock is running out.
