Hey everyone, I posted up in the normal members introduction but got little to no action over there so I figured I'd post up here too...

I'm a subaru owner(and owner of a subaru automotive forum), have had my 2004 WRX since 04 and I think its about time to change things up so hopefully by next spring when the 818's are released I'll be putting in a order for one ;)

Plan is to use my wrx for the parts car to complete the project with zero issues...

I was lucky enough to get a upclose look at the 818 chassis when we (newenglandsubarus.com) held our Super Meet at AJW Performance which is right next store to the FactoryFive location

heres a few pictures of my Subaru that will hopefully turn into a 818...

My plans are simple, use my peanut to put into the Project 818 and have something a little different from the rest... jdm seats, bbs wheels, my brembos, ect...

all other things like the turbo back, bc coilovers, APS FMIC, ect... will be parted out to help this new project along lol

I know Subarus so if any of you guys who arn't sure of what to get or how to source it, I'm here to help if/when I can ;)

Thanks, if theres interest I'll post up more pictures of my "doner" vehicle... aka Project: No Rice

Whats to wonder about?

The amount of pressure drop across it.

PhyrraM - are you referencing to the fact that a FMIC in the 818 would be mounted a great length from engine and therefore the piping length would create a large pressure drop?

Welcome to the fourm. Great to have more knowledge here. I am sure we will be asking you a bunch of questions as we move forward.

Welcome. I come from the land of LSx motors so, any Subie help is a plus.

No. I was just wondering about the pressure drop as installed, as pictured. I'd be kinda suprised if you could mount something like that in an 818.

The 818 was definately designed with the top mount IC in mind. It would take a lot to do front mount with no real advantage. The advantage with the top mount IC is short duct runs, which means low pressure drop and reduced turbo lag. A lot of Subbies go to front mount because the WRX just isn't designed well to get good flow over the IC. The engine bay is hot from the radiator and that hot air rises to the top. At speed, the WRX engine bay is pressurized by the front openings, so even with the big hood scoop, airflow over the IC isn't great, and sometimes it's backwards. Those issues won't be seen on the 818. Because the radiator is in front of the 818 the engine bay will be much cooler. Due to being at the rear of the car, the engine bay will also be in a little bit of a vaccuum at speed. You just won't have issues with heat soak or backward flow on a top mount in the 818 like there are on the WRX. One big problem with attempting front mount on the 818 is that the bodywork was just not made for that amount of airflow. There is enough air passage for the radiator and probably an AC condenser and that's it. You would also have to find a path for all of that ducting, which would increase presssure drop and lag. We still don't know exactly how the IC will be ducted for the 818, but I'm certain it will perform much better than the top mount on the WRX from which it came.

When keeping the factory td05 turbo the drop is noticable and you do get a decent amount of lag but I haven't been running the stock turbo for quite some time lol.

x10000000000 that! great wright up :)

as said above the 818 won't need the FMIC setup as it will mostlikely be taken care of in the design of the body work. My plan is to pick up a bigger aftermarket top mount intercooler anyways...

Plus, that Subie looks too sweet to chop up. I'd search for a wrecked one, or just drive that one like a bat out of hell until you wreck it.
