View Full Version : I had the Right not to Order a Kit ... but not the Ability to Resist the Great Sale

After months of messing around, looking at all the options and different manufacturers, I took the plunge at High Noon yesterday and ordered my Mk IV kit.

Why I picked FFR Mk IV? I was totally impressed by the kit, options and quality; the fantastic attitude of the owners and staff I met at Carlisle this year; this forum and the support it offers to folks like me that are embarking on something I have never done before.

The sale was simply too much to resist ... great savings on the options I wanted. The sale just accelerated the decision!

Now I have to get all the stuff for my wife completed before the kit is ready in October.

Sincerely,

Carl

Carl-

Congratulations and good luck from a jealous guy!!

I hope your build goes well and safely! I am happy you were able to pull the trigger.

Now knock out that honey-do list, huh!

Regards,

Steve

Carl, you did the right thing for all the right reasons. Congrats!
There will always be a honey-do list. There won't always be a deal this good.

Thanks all!

I am now highly motivated to get the long overdue items "honey do" completed by October 20th. One of these happens to be the garage so it is getting the makeover needed to support the build and create the new storage I have been promoting for years.

Thanks for all your encouragement and I am sure that I will be coming back to forum often to get 'er done.

Welcome to a really great experience. Have you joined the Capital Area Cobra Club yet?

I am over on the Md. side but there are a lot of people in your area too.

You made a great decision, it's a blast to build-your-own.

What's your plans?

btw, I told my wife for months "I'm going to order my kit and it will take a couple months for it to arrive so if you want ANYTHING done, tell me now and let's do it, before it arrives!". So she gave me a couple small honey-do's and I squeezed in finishing off insulating and finishing the walls in my garage, adding a couple sockets, shop lights, and painted it. 2 weeks after it arrived, she informed me that she wanted me to gut and completely remodel the first floor bathroom before Easter.
.................women, YIKES!

MPTech,

My overall plan is to build a non donor car that I can drive a lot; no racing planned. I live in Northern VA and we spend a lot of time on the road. So ...

1. FFR Front and IRS Suspension
2. 347/425 EFI Ford Engine with AC potentially PS with a Tremec 500 transmission
3. Power Assisted Brakes
4. 17in Wheels
5. Soft Top
6. Battery in Engine Compartment
7. Lockable Storage in the trunk space behind the seats
8. Radio
9. Color Scheme (still undecided) but leaning toward silver with dark grey (anthracite) stripes with black or dark grey interior. My BWM Convertible is Silver with Black interior and I like it (easier to keep clean on a daily basis and looks good).

I have ordered the basic kit and the all the suspension from FFR.

How does this sound?

I did finish my first item for my wife ... a complete makeover of the MBR closet to increase the (no her) storage capacity. I am now in the process of building out the garage.

Sincerely,

Carl

Craig,

Yes I have joined but have not spent much time on the website. Now that I have ordered I need to get over there and check it out more.

I noticed that you have a hard top. Do you know a source for hard tops for the Mk IV. I intend to build a driver and will want cold weather capability.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Carl,

Congratulations on taking the plunge! You definitely won't have any regrets.

If you are using Stewart to deliver your kit, take advantage of the size of their truck and go ahead and order any parts you intend on getting from FFR before delivery. They will be included with the kit and you will save the shipping costs. When I ordered my base kit, I also ordered the steering unit, aluminum radiator, front and rear bumper assemblies, etc, which were all delivered with the kit. However, note that some parts are drop shipped from the manufacture.

Good luck!!!

On the subject of getting the garage ready. I got one of those large metal shelving units like you see in a warehouse or restaurant. I put some thin wood on the shelves. It worked great to keep lots of stuff organized and in sight.
