Can anyone tell me what the drivers side modification in the pictures are for? This car was started by someone else. Thanks.1142011421

Thing is Marlin the previous builder didn't complete the mod. Good for you if you plan on standard brakes (non-powered) but bad for you if you plan on power brakes. the inner straight portion originally installed by FFR will need to be cut out of there for the power brake booster.

Frank, look at both pictures. The straight portion looks like it was bent downward, and re-welded at lower point. The angled frame piece was welded where the original frame was cut. The straight piece will clear the booster, no need to cut it out.

Has the DS F-Panel been drilled (and riveted yet?)
If not, your F-Panel may need to be redrilled to accommodate the mod. And the front DS FB panel will also need to be modified for the new brace location.
What model is it? MK3??
Yep, agree it looks like it was modded for a Vac-Booster, but never seen one done like that, not bad just different.

I'm pretty sure it's a MK3.1 F5R1006549RD. The F-panels have been drilled and rivited, BUT I've removed ALL the pre-started sheet metal and stripped the chassis down to bare metal. What mod are you suggesting for the F-panel? After doing some trunk mods will be POR-15 the chassis. I think the DS FB panel is already modified (see picture) which brought up the question in the 1st place. I noticed nobody elses DS FB was modified the same. Any and all suggestions welcome, feel like I'm going backwards right now with this restart, but it's all fun! Thanks.

I don't see it that way in the pictures Rich but who knows, you may be right

Don't know if this helps, but this is the frame mod from the Whitby kit for the booster. Whoever made the mods pictured sure took a different approach.

The lower bar that was welded in is going under the steering shaft penetration, so should clear everything. Just be sure to install the steering before the power brake booster. I did it backwards, and had to remove the booster to install the bearing for the steering shaft. There shouldn't be any need for the lower shaft that was welded to the front of the footbox, as the 3/4" tube is not structural. So if it is in the way, just remove it.
