What is your opinion of the dealer provided injector cleaning at service intervals. The service is done by machine without the injectors actually being removed. Is it effective or is this a snake-oil, profit center for the dealership service providers? Can the same our simaliar outcome be provided with a quality injector cleaning fuel additive added in the tank at fill-up from time to time? This is regarding service for a 2009 Ford Escape.
Thanks, Phil

Dont know if this helps, but I have never had injectors cleaned in any of my vehicles. I have owned many over the years. None of them ever suffered from injector problems. Never saw diminshing power or gas mileage either. Some of my vehicles have approached 200,000 miles with no issues.

Pour a bottle of Techron in the tank every once in a while and be done with it!

All name brand gasoline from the mid '90s and on has had cleaners from the pump. It's likely that all gasoline, period, does by now.
Most buildup issues root from an improperly maintained PCV system that eventually creeps sludge up to the injector area or a fuel filter that passes crap (including "new" filters built to a low spec).
