View Full Version : Coyote Install - TKO600 Transmission mounting question

Okay, as mentioned in a different post, I have the Coyote installed. Need to do some tweaking to maximize the fit, but now ran into another fitment question, but this time around what I refer to as the Transmission Mount A frame. There are mounting holes for the Transmission mount, but my transmission (TKO600) seems to be about an inch short to match up with the nearest mounting holes. In fact, the holes I need would be directly over top of the bend at the end of the mounting plate (nearest the front of the car). I can't possibly move the transmission back further as the engine is in the right mounts and in the right place. The fix seems to be just welding an extension to the mounting plate and drilling my own holes, which shouldn't be that much of an issue, but I was just curious if anyone else has had this experience with this Transmission (on a Coyote). Does anyone see any reason as to why my solution wouldn't work? (I'll be trying to hook up the driveshaft tomorrow, so hopefully this is just a mount issue, and not something more serious so that would prevent the driveshaft from working properly)
Thanks in advance. Again!

Sounds like your solution would work, FFR has a plate or this if you call them. It is just an extension plate like you are talking about making. If you have 4.6 driveshaft you will be fine, if you have a 5.0 driveshaft, it is for a pushrod 5.0 and will be too short.

The FFR install instructions address the transmission support extension issue. I opted to modify the A-frame transmission mount by extending the mount plate by 2 inches and extending the slots. This is very clean and looks stock once re-painted.
Note: - do not extend the A-frame mount plate more the 2 inches or you will run into fitment issues where the trans will not sit properly on the trans mount plate.
Note: Once completed - I placed a 1/2 inch plate spacer ontop of the trans mount plate to raise the rear of the trans output (increases clearence of the drive shaft with the frame cross member).

Thanks so much. You guys are awesome. While I seem to be coming up with reasonable work arounds, it is so comforting to get validation that I'm not screwing things up! I hope I can repay the favors and advice someday.

Here is the bracket I made- real simple and easy with the piece of steel bought from Lowe's. Note: I do not have my driveshaft yet, but I dont think I will use all 3 aluminum spacers.

How much additional height did everyone need on their trans mount ultimately?
Just finished my extended A-frame bracket and getting ready to mount her up. I have spaced my engine up with my version of the whitby spacers (mine are 3/8").

Also, how do you verify the left-right position? It should be easy, line up the holes and thats it. But in its natural resting position right now, the trans mount is about 3/4" too far to the passenger side. If I pull it over, I can get it line up pretty easily. I suppose I will do this and let the engine mounts just twist as they need to. Does this sound correct?
edit: why is my picture so small? weird.

We run the exact same set up on our race car.
We used the FFR bracket, but ended up using spacers as well, because in high speed dips on the track the driveshaft would hit the 4'' round tube that goes underneath it.

How thick of a spacer? Looks like I will need about 1" - this is with my engine raised about 3/8".
Does that sound right?
