Does anyone have pictures they can post of their degas tank installation? I see that Forte's sell 2 different styles that mount to the passenger side F-Panel. I also see alot of Superformance roadsters that have the style that was used on the original 427 engines. My roadster has a 351W and I am thinking of installing one similar to the Superformance. If you post any pictures, please provide a description of the part # and where you purchased your degas tank from.

Thanks for the info on your custom made degas tank. You did a great job. I am not sure I want to take on a fabricating project like this. How did you pressure test the tank? Did you use compressed air? Not sure of my fabricating ability to duplicate what you have made. I would like to see some other installations that may not need as much fabricating as this, although this is the most original installation that I have seen.

Mike - there wasn't much in the process that was too hard. If you don't weld, you can probably find someone local who can piece together the vise-grips for doing the crimp. The rest of the job was really just cutting, drilling, and painting.

As for the pressure test, I blocked off all the holes on the tank using home-made plugs (mostly just small sections of tubing with something jambed inside them, then secured in place with hose clamps) and used a radiator pressure tester to pump 20 psi into the tank (well over what it should ever reach with a 13 lb cap on it) and submerged it into a laundry tub full of water.

The whole thing was a bit scary before I started - seemed like a lot of work - but as I tackled each little part, it became easier. I used quite a few others' ideas for starting points or to get me over a particular challenge and in the end came up with what seems to be a pretty easy mod. The tanks are often available on Ebay for $30 - $50 so it's also not a very expensive mod if you do most of it yourself.

If you can build the car, you can do this mod!!! Jump on in and give it a try. If it doesn't work, you can always switch gears to a plan-b.

Chris - Maybe I will give it a shot. I noticed on ebay that there are several different degas taks for various years and models. Is there any on particular year or model that I should be looking for?

I went with the one that has the exit to the passenger side of the tank, since that gives the most direct route to the inlet at the top of the radiator. The original Cobra tank had the exit to the driver's side, but only those who really know Cobras will catch that.

I wonder if a C1AE-8A080-C (6 banger) would be an easier adapt than C1AE-8A080-B (big block)?

Thanks for posting the picture of the Fortes tank. In the picture, it appears that the top of the tank is still slightly lower than the hose bend from the thermostat housing. Is that the case?

It is close to even. Picture makes it look lower. I was concerned with the hood hinge or hood hitting the cap. I had planned on raising it a bit after the hood was installed, but it seems to be working fine.

As to the 2 types the first is straight in & out - this is for the FFR radiator
The second type is for Mustang radiators & one of the inlets/outlets is behind the F panel.

You are using two tanks????? Why ? You are going to have trouble if you have one hooked to the intake side of the water pump.

I finally installed my de-gas tank and went a totally different route. I bought the billet elbow from CobraEarl that allows you to connect any style Chevy goose neck bolt pattern to it. I found this billet aluminum tank on Jegs web site and bolted it up to CobraEarl's thermostat elbow. Not only did it allow me to properly burp my system, I finally solved my leak between the thermostat housing and intake manifold. Killed 2 birds with one stone. The billet aluminum matches the look of my valve covers and air cleaner.
