Just wondering what kind of tail light modifications are available, or have been tried (successful or not). I've heard some of the vendors have them but haven't come across any yet. I'd really like to go LED to grab people's attention away from their cell phone since the car is already small and lower than most others on the road today. Pictures would be great.

Good question - I would like to see an LED solution as well.

I used a rectangle light and made a new backing for them so I could use 2 sets of LED's. I used steel freeze plugs welded on the new back to accept the LED's. Here is a pic of the front and back.

Sure, they were just the retangular lights that a few vendors sell.

Mikey, that looks like a great mod.
Do you have the parts numbers / vendors for the bulbs, sockets, lens? (did you create a post for this? seems like i ran across something similar a while back)
nice job :D

Several guys have used '41-48 Chevy tail lights. I've thought about changing out my tailights with these, but it's low on the upgrade list:

The lights themselves are from **********. I took the LED's to an auto parts store and found a steel freeze plug that they would fit inside. A guy at work cut out the new backing plate and welded it all together for me. I'll see if I can find where I got the LED's from. I know they come in different sizes and colors.
Be back shortly.
Here is where I got the LED's from, I think I used the 1.25" cluster.

Oh and just to let you know the only thing I did different in the wiring was to get a flasher made for LED's. I got it from Del City.

Since someone already brought it up, here is what I did.

Hi JeepFlyer,
If you just need to update the tail lights with LED, I saw some replacement bulbs for the 1156 or 1157 but they are pricey. Have a look at this website.

If you want to modify the look of the actual body then some of the above suggestions are the way to go. Personally, I like the existing tail light lens design but like you, would be interested in the LED technology from a safety perspective. Drivers seem to be more distracted, especially in AZ (red light running capital of the US). Hope this helps out. WEK.

No need to spend a lot.
