View Full Version : Sometimes I amaze myself with what I don't know

Yesterday I got some correspondence that referred to a Mustang donor as a '93 GT (IIRC). I say to myself, "Self, what the hell is a GT IIRC?"

(I know, I know, you already know where this is headed.)

So I Googled GT IIRC and I actually got a hit, where a guy said he had used an old gaming wheel called a Force GT (IIRC). So now I'm thinking to myself that there is both a model of Mustang called an IIRC and a model of Gran Tourismo wheel called IIRC and how could I possibly have missed both of those for all this time???

Finally I Googled 'what does IIRC mean' and got the answer. Actually I got two conflicting answers, depending on context. The most commonly accepted is, 'If I remember correctly." We won't be putting the other one on this board.

Gradually growing older actually sucks more than the older people around you let on. They are cruel and heartless and want to see you suffer through these things.

You're not alone........if that helps!
Thanks for the info. I'm sending that last line to my Dad, as he is guilty of this!

IIRC I LMAOFOTF..Yea, tough on us older folks sometimes but keeping up also keeps your mind working.
Age, funny one for you..Had a birthday party a couple weeks back for my Mother who turned 82..I'm 60.
Niece came with her fiance..They drive in with a nice looking Viper.
Now the guy has never met me and wants to impress the "old folks"..
He asks me 1/2 way thru the afternoon if I'd like to go for a ride in it. I say yes..
20 mins and 20 miles away he asks if I want to drive.
At first my natural feeling is "I don't want to be driving someone elses car if something breaks" but he pushes me so I finally say yes.
It's been years since I pushed a fast car but like riding a bike it comes back in seconds.
I did drag cars and SCCA sports cars from the late 60's to the early 80's.
So here we are entering RT93 and I stand on it thru the gears not watching the speedometer but the tach and the road and the next thing I hear is 'Your doing over 150MPH"..
I figured that was his way of saying 'Holy Crap, I'm going 150 with this old fart behind the wheel"..
Yea, I had this smile all the way back home and you had to hear him telling the family about it..
Age I guess does have a few benefits..:D

Now that's pretty funny Movieman.

About seven years ago, when my son was 5, a guy that I only knew from this forum came to my house to buy a 302 block that I wasn't going to use. I invited him in for a cup of coffee and he see my son and says, "So you're watching your grandson today?" Sheesh. It was a quick cup o' joe.

I hear you and my oldest has two year old twins so unfortunately the "Grandad" label is appropriate for me.
The upside is at 60 my reflex's are still decent, eyes still work fine and the love of the hobby is still there but there's something else.
An appreciation of the people more than the cars. Seeing the desire to build the best one can. As much as I love the cars what you see and find in the people you meet means so much more.
