As specified in the manual, I need to trim the bottom of the tailpiece on the TKO-600 trans before installation. I see where they start at the end and trim off the two bosses up to where the trans mount is attached. However, in looking at pics of installed drivelines, it appears that the only the very end of the tailpiece sticks over the 4" round crossmember so it is really necessary to trim off that much or could one just cut off the rearmost boss and still have plenty of clearance? I see no need to cut off more that what is needed and since the TKO-600 needs a substantial spacer under the mount, looks like there would be enough clearance with less of a cut.
Thanks for your help.

Yea, you can just cut half off. Thats what we basically did because i am a moron. I forgot to cut any of it before we put that and the engine in. So to avoid pulling it back out, we cut it off in the car. VERY, VERY, VERY not fun.
Really does not take much to make it clear. But if its out of the car, I would just trim it right off all the way. No real reason not to. I know you are just hesitant because its an expensive part, but after you start cutting, you will feel more comfortable.

I can imagine trying to cut it off while crawling under the car was not a fun job. Fortunately mine is sitting on the work bench in the garage so easy to get to. There's definitely something scary about cutting up a brand new trans but I guess I was thinking that those molded bosses added some strength to the tailpiece so the less you cut off the better.
Thanks for your feedback!

Ha! I had to do the same thing,
And I can agree, it's probably easier to do it before you install it. :)

Cut off the rearmost boss and webbing up to the second boss which was a pain even working on the bench. Metal blade on my reciprocating saw was dull so had to use a hacksaw.
Spent an hour or so last evening trying to get the trans bolted up to the bellhousing. Could get it in except for the last 3/8" where it has to go into that ring that comes with the housing. Can't seem to get it past that point but will try again this morning. At least it will be cooler in the garage.

What clutch alignment tool did you use?
Do you have a needle pilot bearing, or a bronze one?

We cut the boss off when asked if ordering from Forte's! We also sell the correct alignment tool as well

Used a dial indicator and magnetic stand. Followed the instructions that have been posted in several locations.
Used a bronze pilot bushing. Recommended by mechanic who test ran my engine.
