Some general sites that look at things in depth:

http://www.streetrodderweb.com/general_tech/index.html

http://www.circletrack.com/index.html

http://www.precisionenginetech.com/

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/index.html

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/ - nice article on the first Cobra bannering this month.

Specific technical issues that aren't necessarily what everyone thinks:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tech-general-engine/254670-billet-vs-stock-aluminum.html Read the Admin's post detailing the real issues at the bottom.

http://bob_skelly.home.comcast.net/~bob_skelly/alternator_conversion/wiring_alternator1.html 1 wire vs 3 wire: it's not all it's cracked up to be.

http://www.caranddriver.com/features/effects-of-upsized-wheels-and-tires-tested 17's don't automatically give you an edge.

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1101_performance_fuel_hoses/viewall.html AN hose isn't necessarily the answer, and can definitely be the problem.

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/wiring_ecu.html While you might use a engine with over 150,000 miles on it, consider carefully whether you want to use the donor wiring harness at all.

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2159/article.html Probably the least explored and understood aspect of vehicle design, and yet most of the advancement in 30 years has been in aerodynamics.

Things are a long ways away from the days when you depended on word of mouth from racers, a Hot Rod magazine article, or what you saw on the street. Now we can get dyno testing on the motor or even in the car while performing. The fluff is sorted out quickly, and the why something works is put out there on a web page waiting to be read. Instead of putting faith and confidence in the word of a single person who appears to be a competent authority, we can now bounce that information from numerous sources who can expand and illuminate the issue in much more depth.

If you approached this hobby the way I did, filled with the traditional tales of how things work and who did what, it can be a big step up in what really works and how marketing sells whatever we will buy - not what we need. Huge difference.
