Have any of you used some sort of quick disconnect plug on your wiring that is attached to the body for easier removal of the body? I was thinking maybe the universal trailer pigtail might be a good option. I'm not sure if it even worth it but would like to hear some opinions. It might be more important in a racing situation. Thoughts? WEK.

I bought a Weather Pack set from Mike Everson. It will do your headlights/signals & tailights. I think you can also buy individually from him him you tell him what you're looking for.
You can reach him here: katam25@comcast.net

Check out my web site for the weatherpac connector set that will do your whole car.

I can also rent you the tool to install them.
Thanks Mike

The kit Mike sells is great. The build school teaches this and recommends the kit (and tool) from Mike. I rented it (the rent is the cost of the tool, refundable) but I'll probably keep it as I think the weatherpacs will be useful for my boat and Harley. The weatherpacs seal against water instrusion.
Thanks for your services Mike

x2 SStrong, buy / rent the tool. Makes crimping these MUCH easier!

X3 buy or borrow the proper crimping tool and go with the Weatherpacs. Make sure it's not a generic crimping tool, but one made just for these connectors. There's one crimp on the bare wires, and another on the little silicone sealing plug. One other hint. Also get the extraction tool. It's low tech, but I was unable to duplicate it myself. I inserted a couple of pins into the wrong holes in the connector body (mirror image, easy to do...) and basically destroyed both getting them back apart. Another one of those "Ask me how I know" experiences...

X whatever on the Weather Packs. Got them from another source - didn't know Mike sold them, but his price is just as good and he's great to deal with. He did my brake pedal mod, first rate work.

Weather Packs! You WILL plugin and unplug your lights several times during the build.
Mike is GREAT to work with. I recommend him highly!

I simply soldered and shrink wrapped all those connections. Simple, cheap, reliable, and durable. That was 7 years ago, and I'v never regretted that decision.

OK, this may seem like a simple question but if you are using the RF wiring harness from FFR so you cut off the connectors from that harness and replace them with the weatherpacks or do they extend those connectors in some way? Researched it a bunch but cannot find a simple answer...
Thanks in advance.

Yes jut cut them off. The problem with the connection from Rf is you still cannot remove the lights from the body because each corner still only has 1 connector. So the headlight and directional share a connector. Makes it difficult to remove them.

I used the quick disconnect kit from Breeze. http://www.breezeautomotive.com/details.php?prod_id=251&cat_id=11
Simple installation but the weatherpack system might leave less wiring bulk under the fenders. Jim

I see you have a MK4. If you got the complete kit, it comes with all the weatherpack connections included.

QSL is right. The complete kit comes with connectors, but it's still one connector per corner. Lights are still trapped in the body.

I didn't buy the complete kit but I did buy the Ron Francis wiring harness. I just looked and verified there are 4 (2 white and 2 black) which to Michael's point is not enough to avoid the problem removing indivdual lights from the body while it is mounted. All makes sense to me now... Thanks for all the info.

How many wires does the weather pak kit accomodate? I think I may need 6 wires in front, 4 in the rear, and 4 for the remote taillight/license plate light. So that would be a total of five connectors to completely disconnect and remove body with lights in place. Thanks, WEK.

You need a total of 8 connectors. In the front, for each side (2) 3 wire connectors, one for each head light, and (2) 3 wire connectors, one for each turn light. The rear is the same (2) 3 wire connectors for each side, one for the top brake light, tail light, and one for the lower turn, and tail light.

My kit includes 6 3 pin connectors and 2 4 pin connectors. Also I throw in a 2 pin connector for your electric fan just because it doesnt come with one.
The 6 3 pin connectors are for the taillights and front turn signals. The 2 4 pin connectors are for the headlights. The old FFR headlights had a built in DRL hence the 4 pin. Now the 4 pin just differentiates between the connections on the front of the car. I can supply you with extra connectors to do waht ever you need beyond that.

Thanks, Mike. I'll give you a call. I'm not sure about the best way to do the grounds so you may be able to sort it out for me. See you later. And thanks everybody. WEK.
