Hi guys!
Did anyone from you improvements for stiffness and safte to the frame. I have seen some on the web, but I can not finde anymore.
In winter my car gets stripped completely, because the left tube has a welding disortion I want to fix. Some rust and thats why I will do that step.
That would be the best time to do some improvements.
thx

Which chassis do you have? MK I, MK II, MK II.5, MK III, MK III.1, or Mk IV?

If you are not sure, post your FFR chassis # here.

Here is a nice thread documenting some frame stiffening mods to a Roadster, along with other great work.

Thx Jacob, that is what I was looking for.
David shows the changes on the front, but nothing to the back.

Here is a link showing the simplest and best way to do fuel cell protection tubing on a Coupe. My understanding is that the Roadster frame is about the same back there, so this design should transfer over.

I did it a slightly different way on my Coupe, which you can see in my "Frame Mods to Type 65 Coupe" thread in the Coupe sub-forum. What I did works fine, but was a little more complex to install, and you have to re-work how the fuel cell mounts. You will also see a litany of other frame changes in my Coupe thread, some of which I would do again, others I may not.

Do you have independent rear suspension?

Check out this thread.

I do not know whether it applies to your car, but my understanding is that stiffening the trans tunnel will generally make these cars stiffer. I have no firsthand experience here, and am only passing on the information.

Also see post #15 in this thread, described as a “Spec Racer” frame mod.

Hope this helps.
