I have just ordered my Mark IV, and am currently building a 390 as the power plant. Does anyone have any suggestions about using or not using an aluminum flywheel on a 390? Thanks

Be prepared for a little jerkiness till you get the hang of when to downshift. The aluminum wheel bleeds off inertia pretty fast and the car reacts by jerking/bucking. Takes a little getting used to.
but it sure improves the run-up speed of the motor. General rule of thumb heavy car/heavy flywheel - light car/light flywheel.
It just takes some getting used to

There's bound to be controversy on this subject. My opinion is that a big block will take an alum flywheel just fine. The pros outweigh the cons. I think you will not lose much in the way of torque. I have one on my roadster small block but also had them on a 409 about 375 hp and a 396 with 425 hp. They ran great with the alum flywheels!!! Go for it. WEK.
