Hi guys - just bought an MK1 that looks like it was recently finished. I was gonna buy a kit but after reading the build book I thought I'm 60 years old, it would probably take me 2 years to build, I want to enjoy the car now. I was able to pick up a nice car which I am tweaking and I can drive it now. I have already replaced/cleaned up a bunch of things and one issue I have is the passenger door at the bottom sticks out a bit. Is there an adjustment for that? I don't see one in the build book. The door is pretty much flush on the sides, just the bottom sticks out a bit.
Also where do you jack this thing up, what are the jack points on the frame?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

You can jack it anywhere on the sides of the frame, underneath the front frame X-member, or under the rear differential.

When I built my MKII, my son and I spent a good deal of time setting and adjusting body panel gaps, and panel fit as well. The door itself has a good deal of adjustment available in the slotted bolt holes, so trying that is a possibility. The trick is to get the part you want lined up right where you want it, without screwing anything else up in the process! Each of the lower corner points of the doors has a pair of body mounting bolts, and those can be loosened and shimmed: that may give you a more local option to fix the problem. It's an easy one to check as well, in that you can simply loosen the bolts and pull the bodywork out a bit to see if the misalignment goes away. Your choices are more limited because the car is already painted. We did some of the alignment work by sanding and filling prior to painting, but you cannot do that.

You have a MK-1 so there isn't alot of adjustment on the hinges. Try putting a washer or 2 between the door and the hinge on the top bolts, this might help. I know several people you have MK-1 and the doors are a bear to get just right. keep playing with them and you can get them close. If I remember right the MK-1 doors are prety flat at the bottom and didn't curve in like the body. We need a couple MK-1 owners to jump in here.

A good rule for jacking is to buy a 40" piece (approximate) of c-channel iron about 3" wide. Then line it with wood or rubber (something to keep it from scratching the tubes). You can use it across the 4" round tubes and jack it in the middle. It is all too common that when jacking on a round tube, the jack slips off.

Been there, done that. Replaced an expensive Aluminum Ron Davis Radiator. Posted on another forum and found out how common the jack-slipping problem is.
