I'd like to put in the rear shelf modification (behind the rear bulkhead at shoulder level). I've seen a few roadsters with this but have not found much on this forum for how to do it.

Pics & plans please.

Thanks, John.

I did mine myself. Cut out the original panel about 1 inch above the trunk floor. I used that piece as the template for the upper curve of my new piece . But I didn't go full width. My car is a MkII that has had the 315 mod done so the wheel well alum is not quite as nice as it was originally. So I made side panels that are just outboard of the outer leg of the rollbar. I left the entire front open as the 3/4x3/4 horizontal tube is about in the middle of the opening vertically. I figured it would be good for keeping jackets etc stuffed in there more or less where they should be. That and the one inch lip I left along the bottom have worked well so far.

John, I put a shelf about 8" behind the cockpit wall. Since my trunk is polished I decided not to use the Breeze solution. My design uses tabs that pass through the floor and sides. First I cut a template out of wood. The top follows the arc of the rear cockpit. There are small variations in the floor and sides and a custom template is neccesary:

I cut out the new wall out of a .63 6061 aluminum and included tabs. I then cut slots in the trunk for the tabs. Lots of test fits followed:

After I was satisfied with the fit I polished the wall and did the final install:

When I mounted the body I put some bulb seal across the top to keep the wall from rattling. I also put silver silicon in every slot from the back to seal the tabs.

I have a lot more pics in one of my pic albums:

If you have any questions, please ask!

:)

PS Here's a pic of the finished install at the HB show last April:

Still building, but here's my mk4. I'm going to install an MDF panel as a back wall and cover it with carpet.

Bought the Breeze solution. I was informed by Mark Reynolds that the kit only fits in the MK 3.1 and modifications would be needed for the MK4. Has anyone bought the Breeze solution and installed in a MK4? If you can share where you made the cuts - I'd appreciate.

Ideally, Mark should provide the template where to cut for the MK4. :)
