Well folks, I drove down from the east coast to pick up my kit, **(BTW- sorry to all who offered a visit -- i was on a tight sched on the way down, but i will eventually take you all up on your offers)**
Sunday the drive down was uneventful, we arrived in Wareham the next morning bright and early -- the loading was at most 10 minutes-- these guys have this down to a science!
We werent out of town 10 miles and the 1999 siverado we had started sputtering... we limped north of Boston and finally the truck died. After a towing to Andover and the Deluca Chev dealer (give these guys 10 full marks for incredible customer service). An extra day and 1000 bucks later (fuel pump/sensor unit) we were back on the road.
Just outside of Bangor on Route 9, the skies opened up in a torrential downpur that lasted 2 hours until the border. My precious boxes were nothing more than brown paste -- the contents were fine, though.
The border visit was less than 3 minutes -- a quick tax bill and we were on our way again. The guys there reminded me of the following points--
-- Kit cars are illegal to bring into canada, kit car PARTS are ok
-- the body cannot be permanently attached to the chassis, or it will contravene the transport canada letter
-- doing your homework in advance will make the border crossing easy -- they are picky!
(BTW-- i recieved my trans can letter in less than 3 hours after applying by fax!!)
We got the car home, it is a much lighter load than i anticipated-- it could have easily been hauled by a minivan and a utility trailer -- all the boxes may have been 200 lbs , and the kit was only 450 lbs
all good-- now for the build.....1078410785
