Hi everyone,

I have been following the 818 dev on this forum for the past 4 mo but never took the time to register until now. I have always been interested in race/fast car but couldn’t find a project that would suit both my wallet and ambitions. That being said I have absolutely no experience in building cars, I'm mechanically inclined but never did more on a car than change the brakes.

I'm assuming I would fall in the 818 targeted audience being +/- 30 years old that can afford a 20-25k toy but not a 50k toy, having modest to zero experience in building cars (I know some of you have a lot of exp...). That being said, I think a 818 build school would receive a lot of support from actual/potential 818 customers.

Anyone sharing my thought?

Sounds like a great idea! Not trying to sign anyone up, but maybe AJW performance might be interested in doing something like that. It would be neat to have a build school so close to the Factory Five building. I picture being in the middle of class and Mr. Dave pops in for a surprise visit. LOL.

Not a bad idea.

At first, I didn't think the idea was very good but actually it makes a lot of sense if you add the AJW variable to the equation. I think AJW could help the potential growth of the 818 which will take off eventually (help their business and donor program) . Also, it would give them a real foothold from the early going. I don't know if it could be done immediately, though. The cost would be another question mark because the 818 concept is partially based on low cost (kit and donor) and therefore directed at a different market so I think some good incentive would have to be offered. How about setting up a hostel back of FFR and free transportation to the build site (just kidding). WEK.

Once the kits start rolling out I am hoping that owners will document their builds in a build thread on the forum. Nothing like real world experiences with the aid of a digital camera or video. If I get an 818 kit my plan is to do just that.

Involving AJW is not a bad idea but what I had in mind is something similar to what is being offered for the Mk4 or Hot Rod. A three day workshop where student "build a Factory Five Mk4 or ‘33 Hot Rod from the bare frame all the way up to the completed car. The school costs $799 for either ’33 Hot Rod or Mk4 Roadster. Graduates receive a $500 Build School rebate towards the purchase of a Factory Five kit." It has apparently saved many headaches to Mk4 builder and has received really positive feedback.

I like this idea.

I am sure there will be a ton of information on building the cars on the forums once the kits start to role out, one of the biggest assests FFR has is its community and the sharing of information on the web. That said, Mott in Michigan does build schools already for the MKIV and I think the Hot Rod, if the 818 has the same type of success I could see them adding an 818 class as well.

Although a build school associated with AJW performance might be a neat idea, particularly because of their proximity to FFR, I'm guessing that a build school at Mott in Michigan might be the more realistic scenario, since they already have the structure in place for other FFR cars.

Either way, I'm betting that a build school is developed for the 818.

I'm just hoping that since the kit is cheaper, the build school will be also. LOL

I build school is for sure a possibility, but would of course need to happen down the road when the 818 is in full production, and us as well as 818donors.com.
