I really hope something like this (tilt/quick release) will be available it just makes life so much easier. If not it will be incorporated in my build.

That's pretty neat. We will just have to wait and see what they are planning on doing for the engine bay access.

I know one day I'm going to see someones body work sailing across the autocross cone sea powered only by the wind. Scuff. Scrape. Scuff. Red Flag. Scuff. Slide. Crunch. Scuff. Worker station. Fence.
Clam shell is cool. Hopefully lightweight.

Nice to see somebody actually did this.
I have the same idea in mind for the front on the 65 Coupe, when you use a front airdam.

Convience and bragging rights, I see it. Weight? Don't see it not adding weight. The smaller panels can be quite flimsy and still self support when bolted together. The large self supporting clamshell needs stategic reinforcement or risk not being able to support itself.

Absolutely true. The '69 Saab Sonett I owned years ago had a clamshell front end (the entire one-piece front end -- hood, fenders, everything) tilted forward to allow access to the drivetrain. Very convenient -- one could work in the engine compartment while sitting on the tire....... but yes, pretty heavy.
