I followed a similar routing as GregM and a couple others when installing my Smiths mechanical speedometer and cable. Because I have the anti-clockwise version (i.e., reversed 180 mph speedo), I had to install the 90* reverser on the back of the speedo. This allowed me to point it directly down the faux dash tube on the driver's side of the trans tunnel. I positioned the tube so that the cable would run from the trans output in a gentle radius and then straight up the tube to the reverser on the back of the speedo. The pictures below give an idea of the routing. Sorry for the quality of the side view - I was trying to zoom in, but it came out a bit blurry.

Rear view of the speedo showing the reverser mounted on the back of the speedo and pointed into the faux dash tube - the panel at the bottom is the under-dash panel by replicaparts.com:

Side view of the installation showing the cable passing up from the trans tunnel into the dash tube and then connecting to the reverser on the back of the speedo. The under-dash support panel is visible only in profile as a thin silver line in this photo:

View of the speedo cable going from the trans output up to the dash tube - I'm using the shortest stainless steel braided speedo cable that Breeze offers - the cable is affixed to the driver's side 4" round chassis tube with the stainless/rubber clip that Breeze provides in the installation kit, which gives a secure mount, without clamping down hard on the housing:
