10744One of my First Sergeants over here at Fort Polk was selling a basicly brand new 393 that he has less than 200 miles on. He got it right before we deployed to Afghanistan and while he was over there found a 351c that he put in his mustang when we returned. He had it listed in our Fort Polk Bookoo which is a place the military has to sell things. Was behind a Soldier as he was looking for some rims for his car and saw it. Went over to the First Sergeants house to look at it and made him a offer. He lives just two blocks away from me and is a ace mechanic and told me he would love to help me get it in the car in return for a quick drive once it was done. Cant belive the way things workout sometimes. Im back on track !!!! Still staying Lucky!!!!

Good luck on the build. Be careful - at Fort Polk the giant mosquitos may carry your new engine away and feed it to their young......
Thank you for your service to our country!

Congratulations the engine makes it look and feel more like a car. I thought you were getting an engine from Performance Auto; what happened?

Thats true, but being so short on money, this was something I couldnt pass up. He gave me a great deal on it I still cant belive he basicly gave it away. As for Performance Auto.....Joey was great the whole time I was dealing with them and I would also like everyone to know that I gave them a deposit for an engine that he could have just kept, but didnt. He let me use that money for some other parts I need and for that I am very greatfull. I cant say anything about their engines, seeing as I never put it in and ran it, but I can tell you that they were very helpfull and professional.

Funny how things sometimes come together and glad the engine (and install helper) fell into your lap. I was going to use the 302 out of my 94 GT donor, but was going to spend a lot having the machine shop check it out (over $800) before building it up. Called an engine builder in Tennessee my nephew uses to build his racing short blocks (he's dynoed at 1850 whp in his 91 GT) to order heads, intake, fasteners, etc. He had a short block he built that the client paid half on and then abandoned. Got a racing short block (306ci) for $1200, total package (short block, heads, intake, roller rockers, fasteners) was $3750. I had figured $6000 for the build.

I'm happy to hear you got a great deal on the engine and are able to keep your dream alive. I look forward to reading about your progress.

David, very cool, on track is a good place to be, having the engine makes it all that much more real. Just wait till you drop it in and the first start :-)
