Telescoping steering column question

I already screwed up my first attempt to post, so here we go again.

I did all the cutting and drilling for the telescoping steering column. I believe I have that part of it right. I have connected the universal joint to the steering shaft connected to the steering rack. I have mounted the Corvette steering column.

I trimmed the steering shaft to 8 inches as described in the manual.

To me it seems like the Corvette steering colum is fully extended. It reaches all the way to the front wall of the foot box.

If I connect a 12v power source to the telescoping motor, will that allow me to retract the column so things will fit?

No. The motor drives the cable that move the portion of the column, from the mount and aft toward the driver.

From the picture it looks as if the only thing you've done to the steering column is remove the tele drive cable. You have to modify the column either as per the manual or using Shane's technique (which IMO is the most stable and alleviates any shaft movement, and saves buying the FFR tele-column add-on).

Once you've modified the column the tele-motor section of the column will be separated and mounted to the chassis with the drive cable connected to the modified column to provide the function.
