I am almost finished getting the sheet metal ready for powder coating for my gen 2 type 65 but have one question. How does the driver’s side firewall extension attach to the main firewall? The extension looks like it attaches vertically to the driver’s side foot box and the main firewall is on an angle.

Bill, I think you're talking about the piece that comes down the driver's side outside the footbox to block off the door hinge area from the engine compartment. That piece does mount vertically to the side of the footbox, but make sure you're happy with how stiff it is and how well it does its job of closing off the area behind it.

I have a late Gen1 coupe and ended up replacing that piece. It didn't align very well with the angled parts of the footbox, and wasn't big enough to seal off the door hinges. At the LCS show, a fellow builder suggested putting a second tab on the piece to rivet it to the angled part of the footbox. Two mounts on different planes would go a long way to stiffening that piece up. As originally designed, you can just push the outside edge of the piece back toward the door hinges. I am using bulb seal to help keep it in place. It doesn't look like it moves on its own while I drive, but I know it's not holding as well as it could.

Bill i had to mesure and drilled and secured it from the inside of the foot box inpossible to drill for the outside
