Hey Everyone - I am brand new here, and to the world of kit car building. Right now - I got nothing but a dream baby. I am excited though.

I am looking at a 24 month GTM 2 project. First six months are devoted to education and funding. Would love to be making a road trip to the factory at year's end to pick up my kit and meet anyone I can there.

To give anyone who is interested a little more on my story and vision, I blogged about it this morning here (http://cshood.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/hoodsmack-evolving-car-1-and-car-2/).

I am happy to be that 'poster child' of the dude who came with no experience and created a monster - thanks to what I believe is a revolution in transportation taking shape, Factory Five Racing being the catalyst.

Props out to the entire FFR team for what you are doing.

And a big 'THANK YOU' in advance out to all of you fine folks who may be able to guide and coach me over the next 24 months. I give you full approval to take me to the woodshed if that is necessary on occasion :p

I am looking forward to learning all there is to know - and - using this as another bonding experience with my 10 year old daughter. In fact - that's how the sell is going down with the pretty wife in this household.

Cheers,

Chris Hood

wanted to let you know about the other forum (ffcars) if you didn't know.(check out the 64k questions - ffcars) presently, there is more info on the gtm on the other forum. eventually i think this forum will catch up. (it's newer and it's alot of info to transfer) there's alot of info and great people on both forums, and they're glad to help. good luck and happy building!

EDIT: rant removed...

hoodsmack, welcome. I look forward to watching your build! We have Blogs and pic/video albums here that you can use to help document your build. Do you have any special mods planned or will this be "by the book"?

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you don't mind spending a monsterous amount of time on this project. I guess you are aware. Just curious as to your background so we can know a little more. I know you said you had no kit car experience. If you are a car builder, then your time frame sounds realistic but if you are unexperienced that would be very optimistic, I think. I know a lot of people have car building (hot rod) experience that can be transferable to these kits but the GTM is a little further out there for the average hot rodder. Also, I think you can get a lot of very useful reading here on the GTMs. I have and I haven't had to go to the other forum unless there was a link that was interesting. I'm hoping you can be converted to the roadster group with time. Never hurts to try!!! Goog luck, WEK.

wasn't trying to step on any toes here with the info on the other forum. i'm looking forward to the growth of this forum and plan to become a vendor here soon. with that being said, there is more info on the gtm there at this time. it would be great to get something like the 64k (common questions) here on this forum. it's a great way for people to get major info by looking themselves. am i wrong?

Thanks for the replies and welcome everyone. Appreciate the reception very much. Let me put out some quick responses to good questions and input.

Carbon Fiber: thanks for the heads up, I will head over and check out your suggestion for 'additional material' that is available. And best to you on your vision for becoming a vendor. Cool. I'll be keeping an eye out for what you are doing.

David Hodgkins: Great to hear on all of the material available. I hope to carve out some time over the weekend to dive in and do some reading here. I love to research so I am going to have a lot of fun with what others have for documentation. Right now - I'd say, 'by the book' I'd like to get this first one right, learn best practices and minimize costly mistakes I might create for myself with grand visions. Maybe my gtm should be after I have one or solid roadster builds first (hat tip SkullAndBones!) In fact, I am wondering if starting with GTM is perhaps 'not wise' ? Guys, when I say I've never done this before - i mean i am seriously ignorant of the whole process. I have 6 months to determine what would be the best first experience for me and I will always welcome contrary opinions and debate to help me make better decisions.

Last but certainly not Least, SkullAndBones - Wow cool someone out here in the desert I can bug about this stuff (even if we are at separate ends of the Valley). Your unfiltered candor is just what I need. I need a big dose of reality on this. I've never done this and that is part of the challenge I guess - overcoming and enjoying the journey. Beyond my current level of incompetence is that job thing, which could put a hard stop to this if they ship me to the UK or Australia for a year or two. Thanks for the welcome!

So I'll be lurking around and enjoying the conversations from everyone in the meantime.

Cheers!
