Well I was playing around with the idea of headrest for a while now for long rides. So last week end I got the tools out and this is what I came up with. 2 headrest that clip on the roll bar (when we need it) I also added a lexan between the 2 headrest to see what effect this would have on the wind mouvement in the cockpit, the whole system can be remove in 2 min when not needed.. It is a work in progress as you will see but I would like to get your feed back on the idea.

thanks

For those who want a ready-made solution along these lines, check out the ones that CobraEarl sells. They have the FFR "5" logo on the back, the vinyl can be embroidered or plain, and they are form-fitted to rest on the contour of the roll bar - then secure with velcro. Easy on-and-off for safety while driving and removed for purist look at shows.

Hope they do waht they are met for (reducing noise and wind in the cockpit) time will tell. Hope to test drive the final version end of next week...

I bought two of cobraearl's headrests. I had mine embroiderd with a large striking cobra. I elected to use a silver thread for the cobra that matches the satin silver stripes on my roadster. I used stainless steel tie bands to secure them to the roll bars. You can hardly see them. They really look sharp and yes they do significantly reduce wind blowback and noise. Wish I could show you a photo, but photos are on another computer. If you are interrested, I could email you pix in a few weeks.

THe issues I have with Cobraearls is that they are not quickly removable like the ones you made and the C0bra logo is a bit gaudy for my tastes.......a plain black headrest is nice and the fact that you incorporated a wind barrier is a great idea............Steven

Steven,
I certainly appreciate your concerns. You can order the headrests without the emblem if you like. Cobraearl also provides an installation with easily removable velcro strap option at no extra cost. Other options are zip ties, both nylon and stainless steel, and bolts. He provides a nice CD-ROM that shows stepwise installation procedures you can use.

My CobraEarl headrest is the plain black vinyl and I'm using the heavy-duty velcro straps to secure it. Safety while driving - especially covers my concern about hitting my melon on the rollbar if rear-ended - and quickly removeable for when the car is on display.

M'y sons and I did get a Few spirited runs on the highway tonight, enough to say that the wind buffering is a lot better with the headrest and the lexan.

I Will have to do more runs, with and without the headrest, to really compare. But at first it seems better.
