View Full Version : I need a good dyno tuner type

My Coyote does not run too well, and the head techie at Ford told me that it is most likely my intake path that's causing the problem. He said that if any intake arrangement other than the stock airbox is used, a new tune is absolutely essential for good performance and to prevent erratic behavior (my problem). I'm not getting any codes, so the TPS, O2's and throttle pedal are probably not the culprits. So, if anyone knows of a shop in the north shore area who can help me with this newfangled stuff, I'd appreciate a recommendation.

You can try Dana at ProTree in Hudson, NH. I go there for dyno tune with my spec racer.

John, I had a nice chat with Dana today and booked an appointment. Thanks

See if you can get the tune when they are done. There are a lot of us that are doing the same setup that could use essentially an off the shelf tune for the FFR long tube configuration and Spectre intake components. I'm sure everyone would make a 'donation'...

I think I have to buy the tuner to complete the job, so I presume I'll get the code also. One of the changes we are going to make is to take some of the twitchyness out of the throttle pedal operation. We're going to set it up so that the first 50% travel gives you 40% throttle, and the remaining 50% gives you 60%. So, it won't be quite as linear as it is now. It should have more of that "bellcrank" feel. They are taking next week off, so I won't be in there until the second week of July.

Will be a while before I am at that point, but I would be more than willing to make a contribution to the cause to use it on mine... Let us know how things go...

Hi Oldguy

Has FFR had the same problem with their install? You may want to confirm first before re-tuning.

Just a thought - good to know as I will be in the same boat shortly

Thx

Ford's instruction manual clearly states that the ECU must be retuned if anything other than the stock air box and runner is used. The problems I am experiencing, according to the Ford tech, have been reported in the past and resolved with retuning. The intake system FFR is using is way too short and takes in hot air from behind the radiator.

The intake we are using is working fine, no alterations to the stock tune except raising the rev-limiter for the Boss intake. Same went for the 33, we were unable to fit the stock airbox in either car which was what Ford thinks is best, but driveability in both cars was great.

Can you confirm the inner diameter of the aluminum intake elbow used. I ordered the parts as per the FFR parts list but the I think the elbow should be 4 inch dia vs 3.5 inch dia as ordered.

Thx
