I got a lead on a Coyote and trans, fresh out of a 2011 Mustang GT for $6,000. The guy got a totaled Boss he's swapping them for, and he's offering the engine and trans together. He's also including the wiring harness. Does anyone have any idea if the trans would actually fit in the MkIV tunnel? It's just a hair under 10,000 miles. I'm hoping this could save me almost $5,000 plus the time and headache it would take to put that puzzle together. Thoughts?

The Getrag MT-82 isn't a good trans, IMHO. Chinese made junk is the opinion of many people. After an NTSB investigation, Ford revised parts for the 2012 models. I looked at the MT-82, and opted for the 'weaker' Tremec 3650 out of the 05-10 Mustang GT's. Also, the Ford Racing Controls pack comes with the wiring, computer and pedal. Not sure if it's worth it to try and piece together a harness out of the car. If it were me, I'd get just the motor w/ starter and alternator and see what he's willing to drop the price to. Good luck.

This is what I was scared of. I just got off the phone with Rick at FF and for the sake of future searches, here is what I got from our discussion. The stock control pack won't work because the computer controls the fuel pump to control pressure and flow. The MT-82 transmission won't work because it has external shift linkages as well. Additionally, the drive shaft would need to be custom because that trans doesn't have a slip yoke either.
Basically, all I would be getting would be the engine, clutch assembly (if he'll include that), alternator, and power steering pump (which I'm thinking about swapping for a Fred's electric/hydro unit). With the 10,000 miles I'm thinking this should come in under $4,500. Any other thoughts?

I'm using a Tremec 3650 out of a 2005-10 Mustang. Basically the same set up as the MT-82 6 speed. Remote mounted shifter and custom driveshaft are manageable. The shifter takes the most thinking and fabrication. I just flipped it, and mounted it on a plate. Not too hard. But, the MT-82 seems to be a much less reliable trans so far.
Also, the Coyote uses electric steering, so there is no pump on the 2011+ cars. If you can get the motor, starter, alternator, and covers for $4k, you're doing good, IMHO.

Any updates on drive shaft options using the 2005-2010 Mustang trans? Those who have been down the road, who did you use and what was the cost?

I went to a local driveshaft shop the mustang guys recommended. It was $400. The 3650 flange is larger than the 8.8 flange. Click the link for the 3650 in my sig to see a pick. If you're running a solid 8.8 I can get the dimensions for you.
