In the midst of a MK4 build. I'd like to coat the underbody of the fiberglass to help prevent any starbursts from rocks, or other damage. I'd been thinking about an aftermarket undercoating or perhaps even a bedliner product (Line-X, Duraliner, etc). However, I'm concerned with the heat having a negative impact on either of these products. I'd like to get some feedback on what others have used, and how it's held up. Thanks in advance.
I used a gallon of Herculiner. Managed to get 4-coats on the entire body and 4-coats in each wheel well. Make sure that you mask off an inch or two around all the openings. It's been on for 5000+ miles now without any trouble.

Just about any of the bedliner products are exactly what you want. A coat or two on the whole thing (depending on product) and additional coats in the wheel wells. Not only helps with protecting the paint on the top side (as you mentioned) also has some sound deadening properties. I also put some on the fender splash guards (elephant ears). I've not heard from anyone that heat was an issue. Hasn't been for me. This is what mine looked like at the painter.

Do you need to clean the underbody with Acetone or something similar before the bedliner is applied?

I did my Mk3 with Herculiner a few years ago and tried Duplicolor Bed Armor on a Mk4 last year. Both products finish off the same and hold up well. The major difference, and to me an important one because application is a messy job, is that the Duplicolor product can be cleaned up with soap & water while Herculiner requires Xylene. With either you should clean the body prior to applying it; I used PPG MX190 Cleaner & Degreaser.

Has anyone ever tried a spray in bed liner like Rino-Liner or Scorpion?

We used Lizard Skin spray-on ceramic coating on ours. Then finished it with a single stage matte black for even looks (you can see the glass in the engine bay, trunk, etc.)
HTH...
