Is it just me or are people getting sick and tired of people HiJacking their Threads to the point you don't even know what the thread is about?

I am getting to the point I don't even what to start threads anymore, because the thread gets hijacked, you have to go back and explain yourself over and over and over again, gets confusing for people who come in the middle of the thread, say like really long ones........enough all ready!

David,

Just post asking that the thread get back on track - What body at SEMA, for example - Or report the thread and a mod will jump in as well. Folks can always create a new thread for the new topic. Of course minor ventures into a side subject are a natural occurance, but if it lasts for more than 5-6 posts it should probably be continued as it's own thread.

The 818 threads tend to meander. If you want it to stay on track, just say so. I got your back. I'll add that sometimes a thread just needs to be closed because it's run it course.

:)

Thanks David :) I agree with all that you said. Boys will be boys, but sometimes they get out of control from time to time. I did mention it a few times in that one thread about stay on topic/subject and only talk about minor changes. For right now I'll just let that one thread cool a bit.

Yeah I agree with you, but that is the internet and people have short attention spans. This has fast become one of my favorite web forums and I really appreciate participating in it, so I don't mind.

Hey guys, do yo know where I can find... oh. My bad.

Unfortunately it happens. Problem is, I can't remember who said what in what thread because they all ended up saying the same thing. I think hitting the "new thread" button is daunting for some as if they're afraid their question isn't worth a new thread. I've never seen a forum that stayed on topic without a moderator splitting off topics here and there.

Doesn't bother me in the least.....threads are evolutionary in that way. Many times positive aspects are unearthed.

Real conversations meander, Forum posts do also. Just go with the flow. To think that one subject or thread can't or shouldn't is just a bit naieve at one end and ecotistical at the other.

rofl.......ok I get the jokes:)

PhyrraM, not sure if you really understand what Hijacking a thread is. Please don't have me explain it, because I am not going to cater to a flaming war over it.

The fact is that threads can be highjacked and it is OK for the thread starter (or anyone else) to report it. Usually, just mentioning the thread is off track is enough to get it back on track. The mods have all the tools to get a thread back on track, including deleting posts and handing out infractions to beligerant posters in extreme circumstances.

HTH,

Thanks again David, that should pretty much be the end of this thread, before it gets hijacked.....lol, or into some kind of a flaming war over something that really should not.

Take a look at the blogging capabilities rather than a new thread. All the comments on a blog show up at the bottom instead of getting mixed in with your entries. Depends on what kind of interaction you are looking for. I personally do not have experience with them but blogs seem to not have as much visibility but are much cleaner.
