I have posted at http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?6236-Help-in-Pricing a spreadsheet that can help in pricing your project.

Download it and check it out.

I have a similar type of spreadsheet categorized by major systems (e.g. brakes, wheels, engine, ISIS, etc...). Each major system has a detail sheet that itemizes the component parts for a major system.

For each component I list budget cost, actual cost, variance. These are summarized on the detail sheet then rolled to a master budget page. I keep shipping as a separate item.

I find this gives me the flexibility to change thngs at a detail level and understand what impact those changes have on the overall budget. It also shows where I failed in the budget/estimate process.

For example I estimated my budget cost for donor parts to $11,000. However, I went with a donor kit from Fparts at $4700. This gives me a variance on that line of $6300.

However, I didn't figure ISIS into any of the preliminary numbes, so I added this as major system with estimate cost 0. The actual will be somewhere north of $3500 - $4000. This iwll give me a variance of ($4000).

My initial cost estimate was $70,000. Currently I am projecting a final cost of $82,000. Realistically, I think I will end up around between $90,000 abd $95,000.

My budget process doesn't give me an absolute road map, but it does tell me where I am at in terms of the build and what kind of cash outlay I need to plan for over the next 6 months.

Finally there are things you learn from reading the forums that you don't get out of the manual or the happy talk at Factory Five. Those incidental items have a incremental cost that I didn't account for on my initial estimate. That's okay. My goal is to build a safe and fun car. The Love of my Life and higher authority no longer ask how much it will cost just as long as I don't get killed;-)

Yes, there are things you can't account for until you purchase and build the unit because wants and desires.

How many changes (variances) are you keeping track of? Just from initial or every change till end?

You look like me when it come to gold plating every thing in sight.
Engine that was over $27,000 (615 HP 570 Ft/Lbs, Ingles EFI Stack, Dry Sump)
trans that was about $10,000 (sequential gearbox, Paddle Shifter)
Etc.

Love to see what you finish with, sound like it would be assume.

Oh I was looking at putting on old Corvette Outside Door Handles, 1969-1982 and Ford mustang locks so that I could lock it.

I keep track of all variances. On my detail pages, I have the estimated & actual costs. These are summed and linked to my main budget page. My goal is to put together a comprehensive build log that can be a guide to future builders. Obviously, part of that are costs and cost containment. While I'm not going to spend as much on the engine as you are, i will be going the paddle shifter route with the Mendeola SDR5 and I think that will come in around $13k or $14k.

I think it is difficult to get a handle on actual costs. I think it is possible to canablize the donor and build the car fo $55k. I really wanted something more than that.

I did a budget review (http://supercarbuild.blogspot.com/2012/04/budget-review-end-of-planning-phase.html)once I rodered the kit, to give myself an idea of where I was vs where I started with my initial numbers in May 2011. I was totally off on what paint should cost.

As to door handles, I am tending toward shaved handles and door poppers. Fastthings showed how to put these in on his video log.

That is a more work than I would do as I would be only interested in the final price, not how many changes I made.

If you check out the paddle shifter that I price was $6659.10 converting from BP's. If you check their web site they claim to be the fastest and they have one on Ken Block's 650bhp Gymkhana Fiesta at http://www.geartronics.co.uk/gallery.htm you can see his Fiesta in action.

I would like to see your when you are done as it looks like you have a excellent project going on.

Any you must have a good better half to allow you spend that much on a car.

Keep up the good work

The Boss will let me spend what I need. I was planning to use Master shift paddle shift system. It works with either the Porsche G50 or the Mendeola SDR5 transmission. It adds $3000 to cost. One of the things I find attractive about this system is it can located anywhere and the cables can be routed "away" for the high heat areas. There are a number of threads where the cable shifters have gotten too hot and this has caused shifting issues.

The other thing I like about the paddle shift soluton is the amount of space it frees up on the center console. I need 2 double din slots. One for the Nav/MP3/radio/camera systems and one for the ISIS touch screen control system plus a spot for the TPMS screen. With the ****er out of the way, I don't have to work out where to locate things. This also frees up space inside the tunnel for other things.

I'm also going with Crash's header tank positioned in the rear next to the engine. I think this is better solution, because you can guarantee the soolant is always above and close to the engine. This frees up space in the front bay. I'm calculating right now I up to 1 master cell and 3 power cells for the ISIS system.

Like you said none of this is obvious until you really get into the planning and car build. Many of the changes cranked into my cost model occurred over the past year as I planned out the build.

Good luck to you as well!

You are not going to crazy with the motor are you? (HP) I saw a crate motor that was 820 hp Chevy (Pricey about $24,000) with blower that had rear inlet.

Who's trany are you using?

If you want a PC in your car, check out http://www.thefitpc.com/products/fit-pc3-pro this operates with 12v and is about the size of your hand. IF you are go with the SSD drive that is on my spreadsheet. Just a wacky thought!!
