I am starting my build in a few weeks and I have been wondering how to install. Some music I don't need a radio maybe just an iPod hook up with whatever is needed for it to work an amp ect Who has ideas on this also speaker location. I don't want to see any of it I would like for it all to be hidden the best possible. Who has some ideas on this.
Nelson.

You would be far better off with headphones and an ipod. You won't hear a stereo while driving. That being said you can mount speakers in the trunk and make some kick panels for the footboxes to mount speakers.

Agree w/Ipod and headphones. But look at you local regulations about having your ears blocked while driving. Not legal in a lot of places. Might need to get some flesh color ear buds.

We have a 300-watt amp in the trunk (small motorcycle type) a pair of 6-inch two-way round speakers mounted between the seats and an iPod jack. You do lose some sound quality but can hear the music-vocals etc. pretty well. It won't win any awards, but it's just about right for travel.

If you would like some photos, let me know.

I can hear mine just fine around town. It looses a bunch of quality to wind noise on the freeway, but can definetely still hear it. My car is very mild with a crate 302, cats and Lobaks, so its one of the quietest cars. 4 into 4's with blown out glass packs are gonna make a bit more noise than mine makes. Lots of pix on my website. (http://jr.stangnet.com/Cobra%20Images/Stereo/Stereo.htm)

Here's a picture of what NOT to do (my first attempt):

My plan was to build sealed boxes behind the woofers, and get a nice bass kick in the seat. In the end, I couldn't get a good sound from a small aluminum enclosure, no matter how much I braced it and put sound-deadening material on the panels.

So, I removed the 8" woofers from the cockpit panel, and installed them in a removable wooden enclosure in the trunk. I kept a pair of 6" co-axial speakers in the trunk behind the grill, and installed a set of 4" speakers in the bottom of the dash (using ReplicaParts.com under-dash panel). The whole system is powered via a 900-watt Alpine digital amp (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500PDXV9/Alpine-PDX-V9.html?tp=35808), and uses a basic Alpine USB/iPod receiver (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2kRoL48dmtc/p_500IDAX200/Alpine-iDA-X200.html) as the head unit. All of the electronics are mounted in a removable box in the trunk. I use a radio-frequency wireless remote (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OvLPmRkaa6Y/p_500RUEM1RF/Alpine-RUE-M1RF.html) for changing the channel and volume from the cockpit. The whole setup takes up approx 1/3 of the trunk, but can be easily removed if more space is needed.

Here's a picture of the speakers under the dash:

With my TKO-600's overdrive final gear ratio, the car is surprisingly quiet at highway speeds. Believe it or not, the tires are actually louder than the exhaust, since the engine is turning ~1200 rpm at 65mph. So, while it's not an audiophile experience, the music is actually quite listenable on the road, certainly no worse than the radio on a Harley Ultra Glide.
