The breeze one works great. I use it on all my builds

appreicate the reply, does it increase the air flow ? will the engine run cooler ?

I think a fan shroud will make it run cooler.

I also have a fan shroud in mine. I think that it will help a lot. I bought mine from Speedway Motors. I should really visit our vendors a little more often to find out what they offer.

Before Dave turned me to the dark side, I was looking into a street rod (ironic) and reading Street Rodder mag. They had a great article on cooling that had some factoids.

You need about 2500 cfm of fan to pull air thru a radiator (or push), the blades need to be located as closely as possible, and a shroud makes a noticeable improvement. It completely kills the wash of air around the tip of the blades that can negate up to 40% of it's capacity.

Case in point, within the same week I had a Corvette owner in the store complaining his was overheating. That radiator leans backward and is a good foot away from the blades at the top, not a optimum situation. He'd done everything to fix it, burped, water wetter, cleaned the fins, 160* thermostat, ad infinitum. But he wouldn't even discuss putting the factory shroud back on.

Cheap lesson for me, I wonder if he's still fighting it.

Thanks for that info tirod, it appears the shroud is the way to go

Agree with Mike; used the Breeze shroud on 2 builds. Can't beat it and it will definitely help cooling by drawing air through the entire radiator surface rather than just the area covered by the fan.

Shroud = good.

Prior to that I had a radiator, fan, and water pump sitting in my boss's office for 6 months on a warranty claim. It seems that Hayden water pump fan extensions stacked out 9" will eventually start windmilling and toss the fan into the radiator. It was a '40 Chevy truck, an original brass radiator at one time.

Max extension Hayden sells is three inch, more than that, it's all about a shroud.

One of the extreme 4x4 truck shows on Saturday morning built a shroud a few weeks ago. Their fan was mounted directly to the radiator like the build plans call for. They made a simple box about 1" deep with a cutout for the fan, and mounted it like that. Granted they aren't the authority on everything, but if they took the time to do it, and show how, it lends some credence to the idea. Basically, a shroud utilizes the entire area of the radiator, and without it, the fan can only pull air over the area directly in line with the fan blades.

I used the FFR fan supplied with the complete kit, along with the shroud and adjustable radiator sensor probe from Breeze. Mine is a stock 5.0 EFI and no overheating problems during 90+ summer driving, last year. Pulls enough air to work fine. Jim
