Prepping my MkIV body prior to re-installing on the chassis for fitting and alignment and have a question about fastening the flange to the chassis. The flange is about 55" long of which about half is under the 2"x2" square tubing. After reading a few other posts, have decided to attach this section of the flange with some 1/4" stainless button head machine screws (will drill and tap square tube) and will cut 1/4" x 1" slots in the flange so the body and be moved in/out to help get the doors in alignment. My question is how to attach the section of the flange that runs under the round tube on the outside of the footboxes. I assume that there should be some type of fasteners here to hold the body firmly in place but not sure what to use. I guess I could just continue with the button head machine screws and drill and tap the round tubing like I plan to do for the square tubing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Also, do you recommend some type of rubber gasket between the flange and chassis?

Many thanks

I went as far forward on the square tube as possible but put no screws on the round. After you get the splash panel in place and fasten the lower tab to the body it will be quite rigid. I didn't use any cushion between the body flange and chassis although you could add some fairly thin rubber. I did use washers with rubber insulators on the screws going into the square tubing.

Thanks Jeff.........much appreciated.

Was thinking about stopping by the local tire store and getting a couple of rim liners and cut them into 1" wide strips and use as a gasket between the flange and chassis.

Didn't think about the front splash shield but you are right that it would definitely firm up the body around the footboxes.

It might be cheaper to try Wal-Mart for a bicycle inner tube. Just make sure that you don't pick up the one with the "anti-flat" slime inside (don't ask.)
