Hello,

Today, looking for a tv show on-demand, I found an episode of Car Wars. It featured two teams building 2 FFR '33s for a compitition. This got me started thinking. I have a couple of ideas I want to run by you guys to see if its feasible. First, I like the look of the hardtop with exposed engine, I also like the look of the completed engine bay with roadster top look. Is it possible to make removable hardtops (I dont like the soft top look) and also removable engine bay panels? Another idea, can it be made into an automatic or rework the manual to remove the transmission hump? I am interested in making it a bench seat versus buckets so that I can make it a 3 seater. Something cool to cruise around in with my wife and son. Could this be realistic? Is there an industry standard required with to make it a three seater? Ive been in some pretty small cars where the back seat has a third set of seatbelts designed for midgets. Thanks.

There are a few people working on making the hardtop easier to remove, the FF way is rather cumbersome. The side panels are removable, there are several auto's already but no way to delete the tunnel because by design the tranny is above the X-frame/floorboard. UNLESS you used a transaxle like from an old tempest IRS set-up then you would just have a small torque tube to deal with. There is already one bench seat 33 but no room for a back seat unless you made a rumble variant. In short the 33 frame is a great starting point that could have a lot of variations, someone TW? said it was a great frame with a cowl or fairing?

One of my dreams I expressed to Dave Smith was to create a sedan delivery on the 33 frame, that would allow plenty of family and cargo room.

No, just keep it one bench seat in the front that would fit three people.

Here is another crazy idea. Has anyone taken a Factory Five 33 and turned it into a Rat Rod? Something like these pictures. 97179718971997209721

Check out the video by Erik Hansen (33machine) where he shows how to remove the top in 7 minutes. Its on the other forum. I originally planned to make a rat rod, with rust paint, but then decided to go with the Coyote engine, which does not look retro at all, so new plan.... The car is not very wide, three across will be a challenge unless everyone is very small. Maybe someone can meaure one for you. the fun thing about this car is that it can be built so many different ways and changed to suit one's mood.

Check out my build site at www.33coyote.com

I put a bench seat in my '33. It required a complete re-work of the driveshaft tunnel cover, trans cover and welding some cross braces to mount the seat to. If you can weld go for it. I plan on having the car at the Open House. If you don't have fabrication skills then forget that you ever saw the bench seat.
