In case some you don't know the story. One of the most admired and disliked people in the history of racing has passed.

Even those that had problems with his legal actions have to admit to his legacy. I think he walked away form the Cobra in 1967 and hasn't had a right to it since. But he did create a legand and a legacy. There is of course many untold stories from behind the scenes we may never hear.

That is just so silly. he was an icon and a visionary. his problems were with Dave and Factory Five Racing. We don't know what the real problems between them. I have a feeling it was all about lawyers. Only David knows for sure. Admired yes. He lived the American dream. He was only disliked by a few FFR owners, and i'm sure they don't know the real reason why. It's been said before, but without him, we wouldn't be. Rest in Peace Carroll Shelby and thank you.

Without him I never would have met my dream car 40 years ago. Without Factory Five I never would have been able to realize it. RIP Carroll.

He is and was a man that deserves respect, but the personal opinions he earned were warranted both positive and negative. God speed.

Read up a little bit and you'll see his litigious habits extended way beyond Dave and Factory Five. CS was definitely a visionary and responsible for this car we all love but his business tactics from his early beginnings until his death never changed. F5 was only one of many who felt the effects of S****y and his legal team.

Carroll Shelby gave us proof that America and her citizens can be great even if formed from simple roots. It's not so much what you have as it is what you do that can make such an impact on the world. I never knew Carroll but what I do know he was one person I would have loved to have known. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. I'll paint a tear on my coupe in his honor because I have had such joy in experiencing the world of GT motor sports, cars he made possible, and with which he triumphed over the established dominance of Ferrari.
Thank you Mr. Shelby

You can't live a life like that and not make a few waves. I never felt the constant legal struggles were the right way to go about the point he was truing to make, but its a different discussion for a different day.
Carroll,
Thanks for your contributions to our great sport, hobby and pastime. These cars will always carry a peice of your legacy. Rest in peace.

You guys posting with so much hatred need to let it go already. Without his vision and tenacity for seeing projects through, you would not be here working on your cars today as they would have never been built in the first place in which for you to replicate. He was certainly no saint, but enough is enough....GROW UP!!!!!!!!!....
My condolences were sent directly to his family, so doing so on the countless web forums I belong to is a moot point as they know already...
Enough said.

Enough said? Yes. But have there been enough sued? I expect those that hold the control will continue " protecting the copyright" as I was told directly from management at the Las Vegas shop. From my less than ideal knowledge of legal issues they have to "protect the copyright" to maintain claims to it. They may over been over zealous a bit in protection in interest of money. Lawyers like to win too. It may not have been Shelby running all that after all. It may have been those he put in charge if that makes any difference.

The lawsuits are long over, let it go.
