Possible?
Draw backs?
I can buy one cheap as a spare trans ( I currently have a G50).
Other than the shifter, CV joints, clutch pack and adapter is there any other reason not to purchase, to put on the shelf incase my G50 gives up the ghost?

I think we have had the 915 discussion previously.
Have you done a search on the "other" forum?
IIRC some of the Porsche trans guys thought it wasn't the best as far as strength, but that is just what I remember off the top of my head.

When I searched on the other forum using key word 915 nothing came up.

I can give you a hand with answering this question. Yes the 915 can be used with a V8 engine, and in fact is a very cost effective solution, HOWEVER, it is not recommended for HP over 400HP and absolutely no track time.
The gearing is very narrow, and the gearbox is not designed to handle that much torque. As a back up box well I guess so, if you don't mind changing everything else, ie. starter, clutch, flywheel, CV Joints, Axles, pretty much everything.
I hope that this helps,
Erik
