I registered and got a tag for my car today. Pretty painless thanks to an old post I found from Dug on the other place. Here is what I did for non donor build:

I had copies of FFR receipt for complete kit and receipt for engine/tranny. I had DMV forms 400 and 4038.

I called the local sheriff's office and they sent a deputy out to inspect my car. All she did was verify the serial number on the car and called in the number to make sure it wasnt stolen. Then she signed form 4038.

I went to the tax office, paid the property tax. Make sure they know it is being registered as a 1965 or your property tax will be around $500 instead of $25.

Take tax receipt and forms to the DMV along with the certificate of origin. I had to walk her through the a few things. She needed copies of sales receipts for car and engine. She put in FFr65R as the model, but Cert of Origin has MKIV. She seemed to think it didnt matter. You may want it to match. I didnt press the issue. Paid $339 for sales tax and tags. Pretty easy and she even thanked me for having all the information. Very pleasant. It took less than a couple of hours from the time I called the Sheriff!
