View Full Version : How many guys are still hanging out here?

I still visit here almost everyday, but I've gotten so I don't even read the posts unless they look like they might have some tidbit from FFR. At this point I'm more interested in the development of the car than the car itself, but with nothing new to see I've lost interest. I'm hoping they release something about the car at the June open house, but I'm not counting on it. Other than a dozen or so regular posters I recognize I was just wondering how many people still come here on a regular basis?

I check every couple days just to see if there are any updates. It's kinda like a kid expecting Santa to have come in the middle of the night because I haven't a clue when Christmas is!

But yeah, I've lost interest. That'll likely change once they post some solid updates.
Until then... I have decided that Santa doesn't exist. (It's less disappointing that way)

I come here a couple times a week doing the same as you, D2W. I've actually posted a few times lately. I'm finishing up an offroad vehicle build now, so I spend most of my time in the garage or on fabricator sites.

Just joined, but plan to be a contributor. 818 might be the replacement for my 510, did I actually say that, I'll loose sleep now thinking about it.

I check the forums out daily just to see what's new. Since I have to build a garage before the 818 and have an addition to the house before the garage, I'm a couple years off.

I am still in here, atleast once a week or when I get email notifications on subscribed threads I am following.

My goal is to purchase one in two years and it will be the track version, so everything up until then will be planning, research, and put together a reasonable budget, timetable and master plan.

Everytime I enter the forums here there is a small hint of exitement, and it is increasing a little every week.

Have a nice evening.

I'm new, but check in every day. As someone who wants a targa or some other form of protection for the elements I know I've got some time to wait. However, I'd rather FFR take the time to engineer it really well than rush it to market. That's what seems is happening (although regular updates would be appreciated.)

I joined just to monitor the 818. I check in once every few months. There are so many unrelated threads and hijacks that
I don't know where to find actual information on the 818. Mostly it seems (I could be wrong) a bunch of posts and criticisms of some drawings and designs of some similar but unrelated body designs. I keep hoping I'll learn something about the actual body shape.

Remids me of when the hot rod was being developed. I was still pretty new to the FFR community and the hot rod was a complete surprise to me. That was 4 years ago and a distant memory just like these months will be after all of you have built your 818.

http://www.ffcars.com/forums/120-factory-five-33-hot-rod-forum-sponsored-e-t-wheels/176531-larry-4th-model-ffr.html

and BTW if oldguy says he sat in it, I don't need pictures, his word is good enough for me.

I'm still checking once or twice a week looking for updates...

I look for donor WRX's every few weeks but I'm waiting to pull the trigger until I get a better timeline from FFR.

Still hoping to be a Beta builder as my night and weekends will be wide open in about 2 months.

Fingers crossed.

Wow, 34 replies and 420 views. Maybe a lot more are watching than I estimated. As I said I'm more interested in the development then the actual car, and it disappointments me that they don't share more of that. At least it would give everybody something interesting to converse about. As for me I will continue to work on my ongoing projects and continue to hope for small updates, cause what fun is waiting around for a finished car.

P.S. Santa made me put together my own bike, kind of like two presents in one:)

Everyday. I bought my donor about a year ago when this project was announced so that is motivation enough to keep me interested. I have found myself looking at prices of used C6 Z06's, elises, etc, but I am still on track to start this build in the fall.

I check almost every day. I'd much rather have updates than what's been going on. However, I'm a REALLY big dork and love debating interesting topics. It's very stimulating even though sometimes it gets negative. There's just very few places on the net where everyone is so brilliant and shares the same interests. If I've offended anyone, just know this is all for fun, I can be quite sarcastic and I love all of you guys.

But seriously, I'd MUCH rather have real updates, the mindless debating is a product of boredom and frustration most likely.

My guess is they are slaving away to present someting at the open house in 4 weeks. When I was there at the end of March, they were fitting up the chassis and the goal was to go cart it so I can only assume they have gotten at least that far by now.

... pease tell us it's NOT Jim's design for the bodywork...

You know, it's comments like this (not necessarily about Jim's, you can remove "Jim's" and fill in the blank with any of the others) that have slowed the updates. I think it became clear a few months ago that any snippet was guaranteed to start pages and pages of beating the same dead horse so the decision was made to simply keep quiet, build the car and reveal it when it is completed just like was done with the GTM and 33.

JMHO of course,
Jeff

agree

It would be cool to hear about some less controversial updates, like how awesome the go-cart runs, etc. Give us updates that make us feel like insiders, keep stuff that could cause disruption, like body design, close to the vest (and be up front about it, we aren't gonna leak details on that, sorry).

I was thinking the same thing, then I started wondering how minute of a detail would we pick apart? For example - For me the biggest detail we haven't heard confirmed is 'Will both wagon and sedan control arms have proper geometry?". If they did come out and say "Yes, we accounted for both and neither donor will have a disadvantage." Would we then march into a 4 page concourse of how it's possible/impossible for a narrow car to reach the same handling pinnical as the wider one? - or how the wheel offset will look like crap unless there are also two bodies widths?

But seriously, I have always really craved gocart details and pictures way more than styling info. That type of info would make my day.

I'm with you, I'm sure the body will look awesome and something I'd be more than happy to be seen in.

Gocart details, silly build info, ie - Running brake lines, aluminum panel mounting, Steering rack, wiring details, etc.

Been checking every week or two, lately. Was watching almost daily, but lost interest when Dave stopped posting regular updates. I know this was mentioned in another thread, but there should be a thread only for Dave's updates and that only Dave can post to. People can then make their own threads to discuss the updates.

Wow, first post too! Been on the forum since it started, but first time I felt inclined to comment.

I think we long ago ceased to be collaborative participants in an experiment (marketing experiment?).

Now we are just future potential customers, no tasting the cake batter before the cake is baked - I guess.

EDIT 05/04/12: ..............thanks for a taste of the cake batter Dave.

I check almost daily...today was my first post in months... emotional roller coaster this project has put me through. I do hope I will be a customer in the near future...Anxious buyer with decent amount of cash and not knowing what to buy is frustrating. I'm very happy to see they are on target... for selfish reasons...I wish they had made a coupe first... but I like what I see. Hope to see more updates soon.

Hi everyone I am still hanging out here. Although I haven't posted much, I try to check-in every day to see whats up. I was all set to order a 65 Daytona coupe and then FFR came up with the 818 contest, so I submitted a design and decided to wait and see how it all turns out. I figure that if it ends up as something I don't like, I can always make my own body or just go with the Daytona coupe. I will more than likely wait for the coupe version - although my body design submission used the same basic body with a removeable tonneau/speedster panel that can be replaced with a hardtop. Anyway, I am waiting patiently for the final product (ok maybe not so patiently).

John
