I am looking to build this roadster as ever since a young boy I have wanted to drive/own a 1966 ****** Ford Cobra. Now that I am much older (ahhmmm, not saying) I think this will be as close as I can come! I would like to start the build in next year or so but have much to learn. I plan on reading most of the forum posts but was wondering if there is any one on the forum that could point me to some local car clubs or individual that would be willing to share their insight. I live in southern Ontario Canada. I look forward to hearing from you and learning from the community.

Lorne

There is a lot if useful tips and tricks in this independent web site. This amounts to an extremely inexpensive build manual. http://mk4build.com/manual/doku.php?do=login&id=start

Welcome to the fun. Read here and the other forum and look for posts from guys who have a build diary, blog, website or whatever and go there. You will find some really excellent info that follows from kit delivery to car driving.

Well another big step forward! My son and I picked up our FFR 8036 on last weekend. Great experience and not likely to be forgotten for a long time! Yes, driving down the road with a C*bra roadster in tow is a treat, not to mention all the high fives and thumbs up as motorist pass, and its just a shell!

A big shout out to Alex from westerncanadacobras, the staff at factory five – Jason, Dave, Joe and so many I can’t remember their names (can’t forget meeting Chris who has touched (welded) thousands of roadster frames!). Also the forum members who answered “duh” questions and gave countless advice, noteable are Angus, Mike M., Steve, Mike at Fortes, Jeff at Whitby. Thanks to all that contributed information.

Friday was the drive down to Wareham. The weather was great and the excitement level high ….. after 11 hrs, maybe not so much. But then the tour of Factory Five and seeing the car for the first time! And the excitement returned 10 fold!! Love at first sight (well don’t tell my wife!)

During the tour we got to see the new laser metal cutter and speaks to Factory Five’s commitment to their business. Meeting Chris and the attention put into each frame and its construction is good to know when the pedal eventually gets put down!

After staying at the Hampton Inn in Fairhaven (10 mins away and newly renovated hotel) it was off for the loading of the car. A shout out to the other Canadian FFR being picked up (Tom if I remember right)!

The drive home was so cool! Motorists waving and “thumbs up” all the way back. The stops along the way brought out curious onlookers! The car does garner attention; in fact, I had a hard time not smiling while continually looking in rear view mirror!

After a long wait at the Canadian border, it only took a few minutes inside Customs to pay taxes and get cleared. Their comments were worth a chuckle or two! Our agent wasn’t sure as new kit cars aren’t allowed into Canada, so a big co-agent (with bullet proof vests, guns and radios hanging off) leans over to look …. “Ya he says, there is some company in the states that are allowed to bring in kits, just code it as parts! … I’m not going to argue with him!

Here it is. The FFR 8036 safely in its c*bra pit!! I’m still smiling.:D

Lorne,

First of all, a BIG congratulations!! You guys are going to have a BLAST!

Secondly, sorry about the delay in your post. A rule is set up where I moderate new members who have less than 10 posts and links in their posts. It keeps SPAM off the boards.

Onward!

:)

Congrats!! The fun has already begun. I am 16 months in, not the fastest or slowest build, and loving every minute of it.

Did you ever consider the spec racer? It does not have doors that would open
