View Full Version : Dropped Butt mod advice
Hello everyone. It has finally happened. I am now ready to have the paint & body done on my MkII. I'm thinking about having the drop butt mod done. Anyone have any advice either way. Pros/Cons??? Pictures?
Any other mods I should consider??
Thanks for all the help over the years.

Roll the dash lip and rear cockpit edge. Extend the hood under the scoop.

btw, if you're going with the dropped but, I'd also suggest the hidden trunk hinges. Completes the look.

I read an interesting comment in one of the links where the guy said he had gotten used to the FFR look even though it is not period correct. I think I am with him. I must have seen too many of those "Brazilian butt lift" commercials! (ha-ha) WEK.

I wanted to do this mod but in the end I just got hidden hinges and a MKIV trunk and called it done. I still have a decent trunk size and I think the MKIV trunk gives the rear a fait amount of "roll":

Thanks for the replies. I'm still undecided but leaning toward NOT doing the mod. I too am used to the look. I don't dislike it. It would be nice not to see the fuel tank but I can't see it from where I sit. Rolling the edges & extending the hood under the scoop are must haves.
What flavour of blue is that Dave? It sure looks nice.

Andrew, that is PPG Guardsman Blue code 12832 (solvent based). The White is a Modern Chryster Warm Vanilla. Believe it or not, Jeff Miller told me it was the first time he had painted that actual code. When I was at HB last weekend my car's color was unique among the Blue hues represented.
It is a modern color mix, and does change shade depending on the lighting:

I totally dig it. Jeff did an outstanding job.
Where are you located?

I did the drop butt mod a month ago and am VERY glad I did. I think it helps the looks a bunch. The rear is now low enough overall that I no longer am thinking about a mkIV trunk lid. That is good because there are problems mounting a tag and a light on the MkIV lid. I did lose a little trunk space and am going to make up for that by doing a Dark Water type trunk pocket job.

Hello Dave. I love that colour! Its just a little too close to the Silver Blue on the 65 Mustang parked next to it. The painted louvers look great as well. Too many decisions. As for your question, I'm up north of the 49th. Calgary, Canada. Its a gorgeous day today............... chance of flurries for Thursday.
Take care.

My MKIII has the trunk of the MKIV with hidden hiinges. I also hated the look of the gas tank and bought this one on ebay from RCI. If fits perfectly and there are very few mods that need to be made for it to work. You can't see the gas tank at all now
