Page 34 on the MK4 manual states install lock nut without a flange on the rear mounting hole. Unless I am missing something I received four bolts and four lock nuts. All have a flange. Can I grind one of the flanges off the locknut without destroying the integrity of the locknut?

If the lock nut is a mechanical type lock nut you can grind the flange off, but if its a nylock type nut the nylon will melt if you try to grind it and you wouldn't be able to reuse it.

We give one additional bolt and nut with the spindles that does not have a flange. It should be packed with the spindles and steering arms. It is for the upper control arm if you are using the alternate mounting location for the upper arm with FFR's spindles.
