Go for it! You love it. Plenty of help here on the forum and we'll help you spend your money with cool ideas and upgrades. :p Tell us more of your build plan.

Go for it, its very addictive and there is lots of support for the adventure here...Think about what you want long and hard. I did and after three years and still building, have the same goals as when I started..

Go to the build school its well worth it.

I started with the base kit plus $3000 worth of options. I have since ordered about $4000 worth of parts from F5, Breeze, and other sources. That's besides the $2000 for a 94 donor. You will find the 87-93 Fox body is better in some ways than the SN95, but both can work. Breeze has some great stuff, in their Eze Packs (got the power brake and radiator Eze Paks, and just installed them) and other assorted parts.

I am about to go to the build school, and I think it will be a great tool in figuring out wiring, line routing, and body fitting. Everyone I have heard from and talked to rave about it, so you should definitely think about it (it's a 24 hour drive for me).

There are a million parts to install, so be patient. I'm actually farther along than I expected at this point (got my kit at the end of January). I figure to finish in February of '13. You can't really make use of more than 350-400 horsepower in this light car, unless you like to burn the rubber off your tires or do a lot of racing. That equates to 750 to 800 in a Mustang (my nephew has a street legal '91 GT with 1850 horses, does 8.0 sec@180 in the quarter, has to run dual parachutes and a wheelie bar in his class, scares my socks off).

Good luck. I know you will enjoy yourself.

I am in the middle of a Roadster build. F5 makes the best kit. If you are going donor, Fox body (87-93) is best, but be aware they are 4 lug wheels, so you will have to get 94-04 spindles, and axles from F5, Breeze, or another source (I have a 95 donor, so some parts I have had to source elsewhere). You can buy all your parts without a donor, and I kind of wish I had gone complete kit (would have been cheaper).

But, I would do it the same way. My base kit purchase wound up being nearly $16,000 with additional stuff I purchased. Breeze and some of the other vendors are also great sources for radiator kits, starter kits, etc. You don't have to put $10,000 into an engine. Mine will be about 400 ponies, and will cost about $4,600 (306ci). More speed than I need.

If you haven't done this before, be patient. It is a lot of fun building a car. My motor and axle housing are 500 miles away, and won't be here soon, but that's all right (my nephew is putting the top end on and powder coating parts). I have plenty to do before I'm ready for it.

Hope you have fun with it!

Great advice. I have been harvesting parts for the past year from salvage yards. I planned out my build pretty good and I am confident that I will succeed. My build is coming in around $16K as well. I took advantage of the summer specials. I am going with the 3 link, T-5, 351W with 350 HP.

Just made the plunge myself and headed to the build school next week. Maybe we will meet there and can trade notes and offer encouragement along the way! When are you in Michigan?

Slider,
I will be in Howell sometime Thursday afternoon. My wife and I are driving from deep south Texas starting Tuesday after work. Looong drive (24 hours). Look forward to meeting you at the class. I have been working on cars, starting with an e-modified production drag car in the late 60's. Lost interest in drag racing in the 70's, but still enjoy working on my car and Harley.

Sorry we won't see you in Michigan, but maybe we can keep in touch here. The kit should arrive first week of June and then the fun starts. We are going to run the Coyote in our car, and are going pretty traditional with dark navy with white skunk stripes! Excited to say the least.

What rear? Also look at the options. Some will cost less if you get them now, like SS side pipes.

GO for it.
