Hello All – I caught the bug to build an MK4 but wanted to make sure I could get the car on the road after the build. From What I can see, it is not so hard to register the car, but the problem comes in the emissions. To register the car correctly, it wail be listed as a 2012 or whatever year you finish the car and therefore must pass emissions. I live in Cobb (GA) and could pay off a friend in a non-emissions county but would hate to have to do that. What could you guys tell me about the process? If the car does have to meet emissions does it necessarily needs cats? Will the Coyote engine pass emissions? Thanks for all your help and I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Hi Mike,

I have not registered, but the one friend who has, and from numerous posts, in Georgia, you register it as a 1965. If you search on the ffcars forum, this has been covered. Wish I were done, so I could tell you more specifics!

Hello Mike and Eric,

You may be able to register it as a '65, but you won't get a title. In order to get it titled, you have to go through a rather lengthy process and it will be titled (and taxed) as a 2012 FFR. As far as emissions requirements, it depends on which county you live in. I live in Newton County so there are no emissions requirements. I went through this process several years ago to title my Unique Motorcars 427 roadster. Not difficult but took several months to jump through all the hoops. The title states that it is "an assembled car."

PM me if you have any questions.

Garry

Thanks Eric and Gary - I have read the GA law on title and it is a long but doable process and Garry I agree that the only way to get a title is to title it from the year it was built. Listing it as a 65 or 67 would be great as it would avoid emissions but unless you had a buddy who is an inspector, I just don't see it happening. All the research I have been able to do including SEMA's site says I must build an emissions compliant car. For me that kind of takes the fun out and adds many dollars and trouble to the project. I'm not giving up just yet and will continue to research. Thanks guys for your time and let me know if you have any other hints.
