You're going to Embry-Riddle right? I just graduated from there. Housing in Prescott is not too expensive to begin with... I payed $600 for a 900sq.ft. place with garage and water payed. There are many options for housing. You have to figure out your priorities when it comes to housing. You can stay close to the university and either pay more, or have more roommates. The other option is to go Prescott Valley (or one of the other nearby cities), which is 15 minutes away and get a bigger and cheaper place, but have a longer commute.
A lot of people look for roommates out there before start of semesters, so I suggest posting something on the boards around the school, especially in mail room and the library. Many others post 'roommate wanted' adds around this time all the way till the beginning of the new semester. The first semester's housing would be the most difficult to figure out. Once you're in, the school's a small community and it'll be pretty easy to find your way around.
What are you going to study?
Let me know if I can help with anything else

Another Embry-Riddle grad here ('93 Aero Engineering), but it's been almost 20 years since I graduated so I probably wouldn't even recognize the area. I do know it's pronounced "Priscit", like "buscuit"... ;)
There's a guy on the FFCars forum in Prescott, don't remember his username though.

Nice place - I bought a '65 Mustang there a few years back and really enjoyed my short stay in town. Congrats on school and thanks for your service.

I barely made it through engineering and AFROTC as it was - if I had all the distractions in Daytona there's no way I'd have made it through. ;)

Don't know your financial situation but I thought I would throw out a suggestion for you. The housing market is still pretty soft in this area. If you were looking to invest, you might be able to dovetail some sort of deal with your GI status to rent to own or purchase a condo or something like that. We are following the market and one condo is going for 40 to 42k that was 85k and only 6 yrs old. I think that is not unique to the east valley. If you could swing that sort of thing, you would be building equity during your stay in the valley. I hated dumping money into the rental black hole. But good luck whatever you do and we do appreciate your military service! WEK.
